Non-Permanent Member Rotation

I believe it would be a good idea, and mostly likely was intended to be as such from the beginning, if the 10 Non-permanent members were rotated on a regular basis to allow other member nations to have a more active role in League issues. Excluding the 10 Permanent members, there are 36 nations that either are, or could/should be members of the league that could rotate to fill the 10 non-permanent slots. What say the gallery? Does this sound of a good idea?

Might I also suggest creating a stickied thread that has a current roster for the League, and its voting and nonvoting members. As this information is eather out of date, or very difficult to find. If this info is already posted, it might be a good idea to make it easier to find.

Okay, here's how this works.

I counted 38 countries in the LON who were not Permanent Members. I put those 38 names in a pool in Excel. I gave each country a number, 1 through 38, and used Random.org's sequence generator to order them into a sequence. When I got to Year 4, and there were only 8 left, I started the sequence over again.

This ensures that each member serves once every four years.

Notes:
- If there are any nations missed in the list, we'll add them to year 4, or start year 5.
- I did not specify what years Year 1 equals. We should do this.
- It would be advantageous to establish the precise time period the Non-Permanent voters are chosen for. Suggest, for simplicity, January 1st to December 31st.

Question for Hood: What Commonwealth nations not listed would be given there own seat in the League? Baring that, I think Brock's list is correct.

I would say 1942, as it is the closes calender year. That being said, I think that going a calender year for terms is the best way to go.

Hedjaz, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen could all be added, I think.

For purposes of clarification, who are the Permanent Members?

Permanent members are South Africa, United States, Nordmark, Atlantis, Great Brittain, Italy, Japan, France, Russia and Germany. edit: I was just too late with that...

Brock. That 3rd year looks pretty bad. You have Canada, Mexico and the Philippines. A very dangerous mix in my opinion. :D

Balanced off by those scions of stability, the Czechs, Danes, and Luxembourgers.

I cannot follow the logic here. The Philippines gets along well witn Mexico, the Philippines gets along reasonably well with Canada. Canada and Mexico are NATO allies. Why is the Philippines singled out here? ?(

Really, the 'exploding Filipino' jokes are beginning to wear thin...

Are they members of the League?

Beats me. Does one have to explicitly ask, or was it assumed as a default?

Hedjaz, historically, was incorporated into OTL's Saudi Arabia - and neither OTL Saudi Arabia and OTL Yemen were members of the OTL League of Nations.

Historical data is here.

Whether these WW nations would have joined the WW League is another matter, left perhaps to the players.

Some people have assumed as a default, others have asked.

I assumed as a default, for instance, that Syria joined the League upon independence.

Okay.

I can't speak for Yemen or Saudi, but think Hedjaz would have asked for admission upon its creation/independence.

I'll add the three of them, eh.
