Philippine Iron and Steel Company

Affiliated with the family firm Gonzalo Puyat and Sons; operates two works:

Manila Works – opened in 1921. An integrated steel mill with a capacity of 60,000 tons of conversion iron per annum, a Siemens Marin steel shop with a capacity of 50,000 tons per annum and a non-flat rolling mill with a capacity of 60,000 tons per annum. Employs 1,422.

Taguig Works – opened in 1936. An integrated steel mill with a capacity of 300,000 tons of conversion iron per annum, Siemens Martin and electric steel shops with a combined capacity of 400,000 tons of steel per annum, a flat rolling mill with a capacity of 120,000 tons per annum and a non-flat rolling mill with a capacity of 176,000 tons per annum. Employs 4,937.

Philippine Blooming Mills Company

Affiliated with the family firm Fernandez Hermanos y Compania.

Davao Works – opened in 1938. Originally organized to produce castings and forgings for the Skoda-Davao Ordnance Company. Capacity 70,000 tons of special steels produced from scrap and pig iron in electric furnaces. Employs 2,040.

National Steel Company

Affiliated with the family firm Ayala y Compania

This firm was established in January 1942 to construct an integrated iron and steel works at Iligan City, in Lanao del Norte, Mindanao. The plans for the facility include blast furnaces capable of producing up to 800,000 tons of pig iron, Siemens Martin and electro-steel shops capable of producing up to 1,350,000 tons of steel, flat rolling mills of 810,000 tons capacity and non-flat rolling mills of 240,000 tons capacity, as well as a large steel foundry. It is estimated that when the plant reaches full capacity it will employ more than 14,000 workers.
