Presidente Bonafacio class Coast Defense Ship

(Historical data)

The decision in late 1937 to purchase the Italian battleship Andrea Doria for scrapping was later on considered a fiscal waste; auditors in the late 1940 found out the Minister of the Navy at the time got a nice kickback payment from the company doing the scrapping of the ship. The turrets of the scrapped battleship were rebored and later reused in two laid down in early 1938; both ships moving away from the common practice and named after two former Presidents of the Republic.

Thanks Brock for the SIM
