Fairchild C-82 Packet

Fairchild C-82 Packet, developed to meet a 1940 specification for a dedicated cargo carrying aircraft. The C-82 has a high-wing monoplane with two engine nacelles which form two booms carrying the tailplane with twin fins and a horizontal tailplane between them. The fuselage is a large square cross-section body with two clamshell doors in the rear opening outwards with ramps so that vehicles can be driven straight into the hold. Two paradrop doors are also fitted. Cargo capacity will be ten tons and 42 troops can be carried. The first flight is planned for 1942. Dimensions 106/ 77.1/ 26.4/ 1,400 sq ft; two 2,100hp Pratt & Whitney R-2800-22 radials; max speed 248mph; cruising speed 218mph; service ceiling 21,200ft; range 3,875 miles.
