Following an anonymous tip, the Imperial Navy intercepted a vessel carrying illegal drugs and firearms 20 miles southeast of the Osumi Islands. The crew was arrested and the vessel with all its goods and paperwork aboard was confiscated by the Shinsengumi for investigation.

Vice commander Hijikata Toshiro of the Shinsengumi would not reveal much regarding the vesssel or the crew but told AWNR that they would perform a thorough investigation of the criminal vessel and once more was known they would tell AWNR nothing. When asked where his superior, commander Kondo Isao, was, vice commander Hijikata told that commander Kondo was most likely stalking ms. Shimura Tae again back in Edo and no doubt got beaten up again by her.

This is most useful information.

It appears that Germany has until September to complete its national air defence warning network.

While Canada, of course, appreciates the vote of confidence, St. John's currently flies the Nordmarchian flag.

(The ever confusingly similar Saint John in New Brunswick, however, is still Canadian)

Mexico is not worried, since Mexico City IS on the schedule Manzo will not find his way there...

Colonel Oonish put "Canada" behind St. John's as he believes that Canada can kick the evil Nordmarchian Overlords off the island and get its hands on the city before his team arrives.

You clearly mentioned "New Foundland" but I guess that they can easily make a mistake and end up in Saint John, NB instead of St. John's, NF. It's almost the same. :D

Manzo won't, but the team will be able to get there without his "help". :)

Interrogation of the crew of the ship that was intercepted at the end of last month has revealed that the ship originated from South America. One of the substances aboard the ship was said to be Borandis. Having had no dealings with the drug, officials have contacted the Chilean ambassador and asked him if Chile has ways to safely identify Borandis or if Chile would be able to find out if any of the drugs aboard the ship is Borandis if samples were sent to Chilean laboratories.

March 15, 1941

Soothsayer. Act 147. Scene III.

Soothsayer: "Beware the Ides of March."

Ryoko: "Huh? What?"

Soothsayer: "Beware the Ides of March."

Ryoko: "That's that Roman day in March, isn't it? The day of the full moon, right? What about it?"

Soothsayer: "Beware the Ides of March."

Ryoko: "So what should I beware of today?"

Soothsayer: "Beware the... Huh? Today?"

Ryoko: "Yes, today."

Soothsayer: "No, no, no. You are wrong. The Ides of March is not today. It is the 15th day of March. Beware the Ides of March."

Ryoko: "Today is the 15th day of March."

Soothsayer: "Today is the 15th on the Gregorian Calendar. The Ides of March is the 15th day of March on the Roman Calendar. We work with the Gregorian Calendar these days which was established by Pope Gregory XIII some 360 years ago or so."

Ryoko: "We do? Oh yes, we do."

Soothsayer: "Yes. On the modern Julian calendar, the Ides of March is believed to be the 14th and with the conversion from the Julian to Gregorian calendar, the Ides of March these days falls on the 27th of March."

Ryoko: "Uhm... okay... And this difference between the two calendars is the same?"

Soothsayer: "No it changes. As the time progresses, the gap becomes bigger."

Ryoko: "Meaning that at one point the Ides of March will no longer be in March but in April, right?"

Soothsayer: "Uhm... yes... I guess so..."

Ryoko: "..."

Soothsayer: "..."

Ryoko: "... so what about it?"

Soothsayer: "Beware the Ides of March."

Ryoko: "Why?"

Soothsayer: "Because!"

Ryoko: "I know he's Center Field, but he has nothing to do with the Ides of March."

Soothsayer: "Caesar! You must heed my warning! Beware the Ides of March!"

Ryoko: "Caesar? I'm not Caesar."

Soothsayer: "What?! You... you're not?"

Ryoko: "No. I am Admiral Togo Ryoko. I think there's quite a big difference in build between me and Caesaer. I'm also more briliant and definitely better looking."

Soothsayer: *puts on glasses and looks at Ryoko* "Damn! The wrong person again! I'm wasting my time here with this bimbo while Caesar's life is in danger!"

Ryoko: "Bimbo?! Now wait just a minute!"

Soothsayer: "No time! I must warn Caesar about the Ides of March!"

Ryoko: "But..."

Soothsayer: "If I waste any more of my time here with you, he'll be dead!" *exit*

Ryoko: "... he's already dead... Hmmm... What a strange person... Ah well... Not my problem." *exit*

March 27, 1941

Admiral Togo Ryoko's car was involved in a deadly accident today. While racing over a mountain road, the car went out of control on a downhill section and flew off the road and into a ravine. It is believed that the brakes on the car failed.

"It's a good thing those robbers stole it," Admiral Togo told AWNR. "It could easily have been me down there if I was the one driving the car."

The Admiral's car was stolen yesterday and was involved this morning in a bank robbery in Kyoto. The bodies of the four robbers were hauled from the wreckage and torched on site while the car's remains were taken to the scrapyard.

The loot from the robbery, estimated at being equivalent to 200,000 US Dollars, has not been found yet.

April 1, 1941

Air raid sirens went off today in Edo. Panicked citizens rushed onto the streets to see what was going on, only to find out that it was April 1 today.

A member of parlement also proposed a new national anthem for Japan today, but because today was April 1, this proposal as well as all other proposals that were proposed today were turned down.

April 3, 1941

A number of complaint were received regarding the April 1 incident. Complaints range from health problems to runaway pets. One even complained that it had turned him into a newt.

AWNR Star Reporter Akaibara Yayoko decided to go and meet this man.

Yayoko: "A newt??"
Citizen: "Uhm... I got better..."

April 20, 1941

The Imperial Military Command announced plans today to form more special combat units within the military branches of the Imperial Armed Forces. These units will join the Special Operations Brigade in the organizational struture of the specialized forces. No indications were made what would happen to the Special Operations Brigade, but it is most likely that it will undergo a reorganization.

It was also announced that training for these units would increase and that the standards will be significatly higher for these units than they are right now for the Special Operations Brigade with a special entry trainig exam to pick out suitable candidates for these units.

The plans of the Imperial Military Command also include raising the quality of pilots through additional aviation specialist training programs. This would apply to pilots of both the Army Air Service and the Navy Air Service. Bets are already being made in cassinos whether Manzo will be able to successfully complete these training programs or not.

May 7, 1941

News from the US reached Japan today that the breakfast cereal "Cheerios" was introduced by General Mills on May 1 as "CheeriOats". We at AWNR have no idea what this weird news report is about, but we thought that we should report it anyway.

That is easily the most disturbing thing I've seen all month, and you're a horrible person for subjecting us to it.

Well, it's only the 5th. And Walter no longer comes by the IRC ):

Disturbing... maybe... horrible... not at all. :) I think it's great fun with lots of silliness. I've seen them live and bought their CD. I'm slightly annoyed by myself that, looking at it afterward, I should have picked up an autograph ticket in the moring and not in the afternoon after their show (when no tickets were left). :(

... and in order to make make Shin feel even more disturbed... :)

With the Mod hat on, I'll have to say...please don't. Not everyone will appreciate this brand of humor/artistry/whatnot.

Gonna turn the image into a link, too, just for decency's sake.

Yes, that picture is really indecent and unacceptable, isn't it. Unlike the 'porn' over in the Talons 1941 thread on the Aircraft Design board which is totally decent and acceptable, especially the Shady Lady picture. :D

Lacking any women on the boards, I dare say it's just more socially acceptable to have pictures of attractive women than some of the stranger things that could be mentioned.

I can do the same to Shady Lady if you really want.

I kinda have to agree that either they're both acceptable to censure-by-like, or neither, though I will admit there's room for interpretation. Myself, I'd see this link as... "Very Odd" but not all that indecent or offensive, whereas I'd see some of the nose art as indecent or offensive. But YMMV, of course.
