Why would he not be? While it's decades later, the US Green Berets carry a shovel that they are taught to use as a weapon, rather effectively as well. It even has a serrated edge to increase the likelihood of you decapitating someone with it.

No, Z. stands for Zalikowski. Pavel Zalikowski is the man who designed this great piece of polish craftsmanship.
