Labrador Class Ocean Liners

Here are my beauties...my Labrador Class Ocean Liners...hope you like them...

SS Labrador and SS Newfoundland, Canadian Express Ocean Liners laid down 1946 and 1947

General Info (sort of like an advertisement): Two ships to be built by the Canadian Pacific Steamships for the Transatlantic Passenger Service. To be oil-burning, have ten decks, and room for over 2000 passengers, and a speed of 34 knots. Expected to cut Atlantic passage time to 3 1/2 days. Ships to be named Labrador and Newfoundland. Construction is to commence immediately (meaning 1946) and completed by 1950.

Intended Homeport: Halifax, Nova Scotia or Quebec City, Quebec.

Intended Builders: any ideas???

GENERAL DESIGN CHARACTERISTICS

Gross Tonnage: approx. 71,472 gross tons

Displacement: 47,859 t light; 49,062 t standard; 60,150 t normal; 69,021 t full load

Dimensions: Length (overall / waterline) x beam x draught (normal/deep)
(1,050.00 ft / 1,024.08 ft) x 108.00 ft x (34.00 ft / 37.89 ft)
(320.04 m / 312.14 m) x 32.92 m x (10.36 m / 11.55 m)

Machinery:
• Oil fired boilers, steam turbines,
• Geared drive, 4 shafts, 235,000 shp / 241,000 bhp = 34 knots
• Range 6,300 nm @ 34 knots
• Bunker at normal / max displacement = 11,088 tons / 19,959 tons (fuel oil)

Complement: about 960

Cost: £17.704 million / $70.816 million

Distribution of weights at normal displacement:
• Machinery: 5,869 tons, 9.8 %
• Hull, Fittings & Equipment: 21,390 tons, 35.6 %
• Fuel and Stores: 12,291 tons, 20.4 %

o Above deck: 600 tons

Overall Survivability and Seakeeping Ability:
• Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
o 155,342 lbs / 70,462 Kg = 1,438.4 x 6 " / 152 mm shells or 7.1 torpedoes
• Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.16
• Metacentric Height (GM): 7.4 ft / 2.3 m
• Roll Period: 16.6 seconds
• Steadiness (Average = 50 %): 80 %
• Seaboat Quality (Average = 1.00): 2.00

Hull Form Characteristics:
• Hull has a flush deck, a normal bow and counter stern
• Block coefficient (normal/deep): 0.560 / 0.576
• Length to Beam Ratio: 9.48 : 1
• 'Natural speed' for length: 42.88 kts
• Power going to wave formation at top speed: 47 %
• Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 40
• Bow Angle (Positive = bow angles forward): 6.50 degrees
• Stern Overhang: 20.00 ft / 6.10 m
• Freeboard Breakdown
