An initial batch of 40 vehicles was ordered in late 1940 and prototype trials began in March 1941. Tung Meng got the order, because
they already designed the new standard light tank as part of the new chinese tank family.

Compared with some foreign contemporaries, this design is under-gunned; of course, it also looks to have potential for up-gunning should the Chinese deem it necessary. It certainly looks workmanlike and not overly sophisticated, which would make its manufacture easier to undertake. All in all, not a bad choice for an indigenous vehicle.

Bigger calibre doesn't always mean more punch against enemy tanks

I think a gun similar to that Zis-2 should knock out most what's on the field in 1941 at at least 1000m.
Is the common wesworld tankcalibre bigger than 75 mm?

A 75mm gun is something for a heavy tank or ??? We are talking here about the medium tank ;) ... but sure it could also (later) be build with a 75mm gun.

Good operational range

which is probably one of the most important parameters for a tank. I think of tanks in two ways:

Tanks that win battles-Armor, firepower, speed, high weight.

Tanks that win wars-Operational range, low weight, mechanical reliability.

Its good to have tanks of both types.

This is a good example of the second category.

Well, it depends on what the 'medium tank' definition is that your nation uses. I use a weight system so regardless if a tank has a 20mm canon or a 128mm canon, the weight determines the category.

What about "mass production model"? Where would you put that?

It would be even better is you could combine those aspects into one model tank. :)

Many Wesworld powers have introduced tanks with main armament of 75mm - Germany, Italy, Japan and Atlantis among them; the Indian (Bharati) Arjun boasts a 90mm gun in lts latest version. Britain and France are in the process of introducing tanks with guns in the 75mm class.

Well, if you want to be technical about it, France has fielded 75mm-armed tanks since the Great War: some of the FT-17s had an 75/L17 howitzer. The same howitzer was used again on the Char B1 and B1bis, as well as on the superheavy Char-2C. Even then, France fields the 75mm/L45 armed FT-37 (Char-2E Lefebvre).

Correction Bruce,
Britain is developing tanks that have turret rings for guns of 75mm calibre but as yet all British tanks in production have either 2pdr guns (light tanks) or 6pdr (57mm) guns.

Admiral Canaris will have to double-check all information originating from Major Gehlen's FHW section. Apparently some disinformation was interjected at some point. 8) ;)
