Summary
Repairs are conducted on the four Province-class destroyers, which were damaged in heavy weather during participation in the NATO wargames in 1940. As a side-effect of their repairs, radar sets were added to the ships. The salvage tug Careful is laid down in Galway, funded by the Inter-Commonwealth Lending Program. The sail-training ship Southern Cross, completed in 1940, conducts trials pending delivery. The new destroyer County Wicklow is launched from Haulbowline dockyards.
