M40 75mm Divisional Gun

This weapon was developed by the Zastava Ordnance Works in response to a Royal Yugoslav Army requirement to replace its park of Great War vintage 75mm artillery. Work began in November 1938 under the direction of Lazar Jovanovic, and the first prototype weapons were delivered in February 1940 for test and demonstration. Orders were placed in May 1940 for production quantities, of which the first were delivered in September 1940. During the test period it was discovered that the weapon had excellent dual-purpose capabilities and an antitank projectile has been developed for its use.
