Indian News 1940

Excerpts from The Stateman Editorial January 18th 1940

"What is on the minds of our leaders? The Raj was wise in his decision for Prime Minister in late 1936, that man giving us after the triumph of Karachi the even larger victories of 1938 and 1939. But now that man is failing his ruler."

"His decision to support the bullying of the Chinese; yes, the same Chinese that send military help to the Persian rebels during that Persian Civil War as a slap in the face to our nation, against the British Empire is beyond us. While in our small understanding of foreign policies some of the claims of the Chinese are correct we still can't understand why we are taking the side of a nation that pretty much have shown to us their evil side."

"And to make it worse, these same policies have forced the German Government, a nation that has stand by ours for close to seventy years, to rethink their cooperation level with our nation. We are outraged that Germany has been forced to take this actions due to the stupidity of one man."

Field Marshall Chandrateya sat on his cot and sip his hot tea while looking at the latest reports. Preparations continued for his operation and in close to 24 hours it will be in full motion. Rumors already abound around the units tasked for the operation but at least the enemy is more worried with events further away.

Soon. Very soon, was his thought while shuffling the reports in front of him. The weather at least will be fine for a while.

Three days and still no word from the GHQ. Is difficult to keep our forces in check. They have to either cancel or give the order now. was the thought of Field Marshall Chandrateya while reading the latest situation reports. His aide entered the room and gave him the response to his thought.

"Is this verified?", he asked the young man.

"Yes, Sir." was the response.

"Good. Good news indeed." And Chandrateya sighted.

Germany's role might raise some international eyebrows. German troops haven't served overseas since the Great War. Certainly its further sign that they have re-emerged on the world scene and that they have interest in the peace of the region.

I have found passing references to German peacekeeping troops deploying to South America in the early 1930s, but I agree, German troops in the midst of Central Asia might raise concerns - in several quarters.

Hum! Germany already rejected the offer to sent advisor and peacekeepers to Afghanistan. That is the reason of the proposal to the League. But if they decide to accept under the new proposal to be in the region they are more than welcomed.

And the formal German response, with rationale, will be posted at the appropriate time in the German news cycle.

See my response there.

Britain would welcome a fellow ally sending some experienced troops to clear up the problem, Rambo style, to stamp this out once and for all. I don't think the Irish and Czechs can cut it if the combined Bharat, Persian and Afghan armies are stumped.
