Military Districts (Wehrkreis)

The purpose of military districts (Wehrkreis) is to relieve field commanders of as much administrative work as possible and to provide a regular flow of trained recruits and supplies to the Field Army. They separate the Field Army (Oberbefehlshaber des Heeres) from the Home Command (Heimatkriegsgebiet) entrusts the responsibilities of training, conscription, supply and equipment to that command.

Corps and other Army level supporting troops are also assigned to military districts for administrative purposes. The current formations of the Field Army are assigned to administrative military districts as follows:
