LÉ Granuaile

Granuaile, Irish Heavy Cruiser laid down 1925
The Granuaile (ex-USS Salt Lake City) was purchased from the United States in 1939. The Irish wanted to purchase both ships, but the US had already sold the USS Pensacola to Persia, and the Irish were unable to acquire it. However, the Irish were able to pay immediately and take possession of the Salt Lake City in 1939, before the Persians announced their purchase of the Pensacola.
