Tank Destroyer Command has issued a requirement for 2 new items today: first, a 3" towed AT gun, to supplement the 2" AT gun; and second, a tank destroyer to mount a 3" gun. As the 3" gun does not yet exist, the RFP for the tank destroyer designates the current M3 3" AA gun as a design substitute. The US Wheel Track Laying Company is expected to reply with a candidate vehicle design, as is the Army itself, while the .Army designs the 3" AT gun.
