Sources inside the Defence Ministry indicate that the Naval Staff plans to continue the expansion of the facilities at Bar, including expansion of one of the current building slips.

Preparations are rushing to completion for the dedication and opening of the newly-constructed Mihajlo Pupin Institute, the centerpiece of Novi Beograd’s ‘University City’. His Majesty King Aleksandr will formally open the institution this coming Tuesday, and there will be a series of inaugural lectures by noted scientists and philosophers from around the world. The Cabinet Office of Prime Minister Karasec has announced a partial list of guest lecturers that include Stefan Mazurkiewicz and Marian Rejewski of Warsaw University, Alan Turing from England’s Cambridge University and from the United States – Doctor Pupin’s adoptive country – the physicists Robert Goddard and Theodore von Karman, as well as the young mathematician Claude Shannon. It is expected that a compiled transcript of the memorial lectures will be available, and is expected to be a best-seller among the scientific community of Europe.

General Dusan Simovic, Chief of the Defence Staff, presided over the open of the new No.3 Military Technical Academy and Motor Training School here. The opening of the new training establishment follows the recent opening of No.1 MTAMTS in Banja Lika and No.2 MTAMTS at Pristina, as well as the new NCO Technical School at Srebrenica. General Simovic remarked, “The technical education of the Armed Forces is of vital importance to the security of the nation, and this cradle of learning, together with others now established and others yet to come, will play a major role in the modernisation of the Armed Forces.”
Shown for the first time at the opening of the new technical school was a Ford-Marmon Herrington M37 Field Car. This vehicle was constructed on the chassis of the Ford Model 71 1-ton truck by the coachbuilding firm of Autokaroserija Novi Sad, and will become a standard vehicle of the army.

The freighter Dubrovka, recently launched by Lithgows of Port Glasgow, ran her trials Saturday with flying colours. She will soon join the fleet of her owners, Jugoslovenski Lloyd a.d of Bar, and marks another step in the expansion of the Yugoslav merchant fleet. The Dubrovka has a gross registered tonnage of 5,156 tons, and displaces 9,150 tons deadweight; her engines, by David Rowan, are of the triple expansion type, and give her a service speed of 10 knots.
