Yugoslav News - 1Q 1937

Novosti News Agency - Wednesday, 6 January 1937

In a press briefing today General Dusan Simovic, Chief of the Defense Staff, announced that the Yugoslav Army had adopted the indigenous Zastava M37 Machine Pistol as the new standard submachinegun for the armed forces. The first weapons have been issued to the newly formed Infantry Demonstration Battalion with substantial deliveries expected to begin later in the year.

Novosti News Agency - Friday, 19 February 1937

Minister of Industrial Development Zoran Simic formally dedicated the recently completed Tuzla Thermo-Electric Power Station and, in company with the noted industrialist Rikard Ivanovic toured the nearby aluminium works presently under construction. The aluminium works will utilize much of the power generated by the Tuzla power station and do much to improve the employment situation in this portion of the country.

In a surprise move, while visiting the city of Tsaribrod Minister Furlan announced that the Government had resolved to eliminate the restrictive internal passport system imposed upon the eastern provinces in 1922 and to allow freedom of emigration for all citizens of the Kingdom regardless of ethnic origin.

The Bulgarian government, after they recover from their corporate surprise, offer a statement thanking the Yugoslavian government for this improvement on behalf of the ethnic Bulgarians living in the Western Outlands.

Bulgarian Reactions?

The Yugoslav Foreign Ministry acknowledges the position taken by the Bulgarian Government in this matter, and hopes that this may lead to an ongoing dialogue on the numerous issues of interest to both nations.
