Brazil 1939

The Brazilians after seeing the somewhat dismal performance of the EMBRAER EMB-38 decided to continue further development of it, a development which culminated in the EMBRAER EMB-39. Seversky used his American contacts to get the licence for a updated version of the 1,050hp Pratt & Whitney R-1830-45 Twin Wasp, the newer 1,200hp version to be exact. As well as some airframe modifications, the EMB-39 would be an improvement over the previous EMB-38. However, the increasingly rapid pace of aircraft development in Brazil as EMBRAER attempted to play "catch-up" would mean that fewer would be produced than either its predecessor, or the new EMBRAER EMB-40 (1). The EMB-40 would make its first public appearance at Talons 39 in prototype form.'
