Japan 1939

February 7, 1939

A drunken American tourist was arrested yesterday after he had vandalized one of the Ki-70 bombers of Number 2 squadron of the 58th Airgroup.

He was charged with tresspassing, vandalizing Imperial Army property, painting a "semi-nude" woman in a public place, and writing an obscene text in a public place. After a brief exchange between the Japan's State Department and the US Embassy, the charges were dropped and the man was fined $5 US for public drunkeness.

An official who wishes not to be named believes that, besides having drunk too much, the man is suffering from a mid-life crisis and stated that he would not be surprised if the man had done similar acts of vandalism back home in the United States.

The Ki-70 of Number 2 squadron of the 58th Airgroup with its new paintjob on the nose.

The crew of the bomber have sent a letter to the Airgroup commander, asking him for permission to keep the painting on the plane.

The guards that were on duty when it happened have been shipped to Antarctica where they will perform guard duty at the Mount Erebus Volcanic Observation Station.

That plane looks to be so draggy it would fly backwards in a strong wind.

I'm not quite sure that that much defensive armament is needed given the fighter opposition in the Pacific.

Isn't it a Lancaster?

For some, it would be heading the right way then. :)

Yeah, I just grabbed the first picture I ran across and modified that one. I should have used this one.

It's the Flying Lancatress. :)

What nose art is it? I assume it is a historical one...

Well, it used to be a Lancaster, but now has much draggier turrets everywhere. Quite a bit different than the historical move to low drag turrets in the later mark Lancasters and Lincolns.

Probably not.

Putting that on the plane was the easy part.

Took me longer to find a useful picture of the B-14 (or the Ju-89 it's based on) than it took me to modify it.

Osaka. May 7, 1939.

Walking onto the terrace of the restaurant, Ryoko spotted her contact sitting in a corner reading a newspaper. She walked over to his table and sat down.

"Okada Gensai," the man said in a low voice as he pushed an envelope and a picture across the table to Ruoko. "Yakuza hitman. Suspected of blackmail, smuggling, illegal gambling, assassinations, bid rigging, extortion, drug trafficking, car theft, assault, burglary, cargo theft, labour racketeering, point shaving, robbery, fencing, solid and toxic waste dumping violations, internet pornography, hijacking, counterfeiting, fraud, gun running, bribery, arson, bombing, drive-by shooting, coercion, larceny, skimming, kidnapping, slot machines, false imprisonment, political corruption, jury tampering, witness tampering, bootlegging, sports betting systems, games of chance, casinos, battery, mayhem, jewelry heists, tax evasion, torture, witness intimidation, threats, bookmaking, loansharking, racketeering, conspiracy, pornography, money laundering, murder, sexual assault, identity theft, human trafficking, embezzelment, tresspasing, perjury, soukaiya, prostitution, arms trafficking, and infiltration of legitimate businesses. He's believed to have had dealings with the pirate cruiser MS Karaboudjan which would explain why there were 19 crewmembers of Japanese origin on the ship. He also has ties with various foreign criminal organizations."

Ryoko yawned. "Anything he isn't suspected of doing?"

"We also suspect he has something to do with the demise of the one we normally would have given this job to a few years ago."

"Yayoko? Nah, that was Nana-san-ichi... and she's not dead yet. It was just a flesh wound."

The man looked at Ryoko. "Nana-san-ichi has nothing to do with Akaibara-san's death."

"But it was just a scratch," Ryoko argued. "She got better you know."

"You have never heard of it. I have never heard of it. No one has ever heard of it. No one knows anything about it. It's not here. It does not exist. If you speak of it again, you might end up dead like Akaibara-san. Remember that."

Ryoko shrugged. "Whatever..." She looked at the envelope which looked suspiciously thin. She opened it and pulled out a single sheet of paper. "Fined for running a red light? That's it?"

"Unfortunately, that's the best the justice system could do. We could not even get him into jail for a single day."

"So you want my justice to take him out permanently, right?"

"Yes... after you manage to locate him. He should still be in Japan, but none of our contacts know where he is right now... and be careful, Togo-san. Don't underestimate him. He's very dangerous and smart."

"Well... as long as I get paid for it. He'll soon be very dead."

The man nodded and put his newspaper down. He reached underneath the table and placed a small suitcase on the table. "A quarter now. The rest you will get upon completion of the mission. Also, as you requested, we have upgraded your Type 95 rifle so you can pick it up at our arsenal down the street."

Ryoko grabbed the suitcase and got up. "Consider it done." She then left.
