Great day.... I never understood why India joint the SATSUMA crowd...

3

...and how they changed their tune from "remove the European imperialists" to something completely opposite.

The European response to El Derretir

may have had something to do with altering popular perceptions.

Plus the idea of being SATSUMA's "speed bump" could not have been appealing.

When SATSUMA formed, there were no great alliances to contend with. India-Japan could contend with the Europeans on an equal footing.

However, in recent years, it's looked more and more like India would be the speed bump the Euro-alliances would need to remove on their way to reinforcing thier Eastern possessions. Indias actions over the past several years have generally made sense, and SATSUMA has indeed become more likely to cost them than gain them. Ironically it means my militarists were more right than not.

BNS Administrative Command HQ, Madras, 10:12hrs, June 14th 1939

Fleet Admiral Kashiram Paswan, commander of the BNS, motioned in the direction of the man wearing the uniform of the Persian Navy sitting on the table to please present his report.

Admiral Fakoor, commander of the Persian Navy but in practice a subordinate of the BNS began his report.
“Sir, the end of the problems in my country is a welcomed result for our fleet. At this time we are examining the ships formerly on the hands of the rebels plus the crews are being evaluated to determine their true loyalties. As you all now our numbers were depleted during the conflict..”

At this juncture Admiral Paswan raised his hand and spoke, “That is why we have approved the sale of three of the S-101 Class Charavaahaas to Persia for next quarter.” He then motioned Farook to continue.

Farook was slightly irritated by the actions of the Bharati but knew better so he continued, “As such we are planning the construction of more motor torpedo boats in our immediate plans, another submarine to round up the submarine flotillas and possibly starting another coast defense cruiser early next year.”

“Very well Admiral,” responded Paswan. “But what about your intent to look abroad for a major unit? Is that still in your plans for next year?

Farook was surprised by this. So the bastards got spies in my own headquarters , he thought while thinking his response. “Yes, it’s correct. We are budgeting funds to look around for a used ship abroad with the intent to purchase early next year.”

“Excellent. That way your Navy will not be seeing abroad as an extension of ours. Continue with your planning to follow this approach,” responded Paswan while Farook nodded. Then Paswan turned in the direction of Admiral Saifudden Chowdhury Kanchon, the BNS Fleet Requirement and Planning Board chief. “Please Admiral Chowdhury, can you give your update?

Admiral Chowdhury spoke, “Admiral Paswan, the emergency conversions of two liners, one as a carrier the other as aviation maintenance ship and the refit of the battleship Jahangir are expected to be completed by December. Also we will be laying down the first of a series of new destroyers during the coming quarters with more being constructed next year. And finally the new battleship will be started early next year. ”

The majority of the heads nodded in agreement but some just sat, shuffling their papers or something else, not too happy with the design being built. Paswan ignored them and nodded to Admiral Chowdhury, who sat down. Paswan then turned in the direction of the BNS Intelligence Chief.

“Admiral Gupta, what is your assessment of the latest moves from our neighbor to the South?

Gupta response was to the point. “They seem worried by the political decisions of their masters and are bend in the purchase of older cruisers and destroyers; either provided by their master, their master lackeys or the commercial savvy South Africans.”

The knowledge that the South Africans were selling hardware in the region didn’t sit well in some of the members on the table but Paswan raised his hand to stop the talking. “Gentlemen, our South Africans friends are free to sell to who they pleased. I for one count them as honorable people and trust their decisions. So please let’s allow Admiral Gupta to continue.”

Gupta cleared his throat and started again. “While the numbers are very interesting, around five destroyers, at least eight light cruisers and possible as many as twelve light cruisers are joining their fleet. On the other hand the ships are old, with an average of twenty years in service. They are only getting a numerical advantage, nothing else. I’ll be more worried of the use of the cruisers in non-standard fleet operations. They could be used as raiders to our supply lines with the South African Empire. This, coupled with their planned light battleships, is our main concern in regard to them.”

Paswan nodded to Gupta, who sat down. Paswan spoke to the present, “As you can see we need to find solutions to this new possible threats. We will meet again in a week’s time to discuss possible solutions to these new threats and other possible scenarios. Thank you for coming.”

If there is interest in a coast defence cruiser, you may want to let your South African friends know what you are aiming for. They probably have a proposal to make.

"commercial savvy South Africans"?

Ha!
