1938 World Cup

So the teams for 1938 World Cup are:

Chile
Brazil
Argentina
Colombia
Camerun
Atlantis
Bharat
Japan
Chosen
DEI
Denmark
Netherlands
Romania
Ireland
Turkey
Luxembourg
Belgium
Greece
England
Germany
Hungary
Iberia
France
Italy

I think six groups of four playing three games in their goups. The Group winners and the two non-goup winner teams with the best record will play a knockout series to the end. What you guys think?

OTL, Germany didn't even make it out of the first round. Lost to Switzerland. Italy won, beating Hungary 4-2.

Haha, don't worry Mac, I feel your sorrow too! I don't expect Anlantis to do too well vs Italy or likely even Colombia and I think Italy has that one locked up anyway but you never know....

Then theres this

Group F
Argentina
Brazil
Hungary
Turkey

Argentina and Brazil will be the best here I think unless they had very poor teams in the 30's.

Is a very tough group. Hungary played on the final with Italy in the real 1938 World Cup and IIRC both Brazil and argentina were good teams. One of the three teams will come out empty handed.

You forgot Latvia. Latvia enter's a team, with several member's of the team that beat Poland in a high scoring 7-6 game.

Latvia didn't make the cut in the European qualifiers in 1937. Sorry.

Group A Results:

In a game celebrated in Marseilles the Japanese team achieved a 1-0 victory over the Romanian squad. A goal by the Japanese stricker Kaneda on the 78 minute sealed the victory.

The Belgian squad was very effective against the surprising quailifier Dutch East Indies by defeating them 3-1 in a game celebrated in Rheims.

Group B results:

In a game in Paris, the French Squad tied 3-3 with the Luxembourg Squad. Cries of Shame! could be heard from the public as the game ended in a very disappointing way for the French squad's followers.

The Camerum team continued their cinderella story by defeating the Bharati team 3-2 in a game celebrated in Nice. An incredible penalty kick by Willem Smit on the 88 minute was the final nail on the Bharati coffin.

Two old goats.
"I wish I can go to the world cup"
"You will go when Poland will be playing..."
"Then I will have to wait another 50 years"

OOC:
Poland didn't qualified for the World Cup till the 1970's.
We got home with Bronze back then.

Didn't qualify here, either. Like Latvia and Bulgaria, they lost all three of their qualifier games.

Group C:

In a game celebrated in Lyons the defending champs defeated easily dominated the Danes 4-2 with no surprises during the game. The italians took an early 3-0 lead in the first half and hold off the Danes on the second part of the game.

The Atlantean team surprised the experts with a credible 4-1 victory over the Colombian squad in a game celebrated in Bordeaux. The Atlantean team was supported by a large part of the stadium, especially with the large expatriate Atlantean group living in the area.
