Three shallow draft tankers build for shipping on Lake Maracaibo purchased in 1937 for conversion into LST's. Their conversions began in 1939.

The conversion involves the removal of the centerline fuel strorage tanks. The space will then be covered with a steel deck, planked over with wood and the bow modified to fit two doors, one inner and one split outter (formed from the orriginal bow form).

A large double hinged ramp extention is hinged at the top of the inner door and provides a 100 foot ramp from the bow to the shore. The ramp represents 400 tons of misc weight including winches ect to move the ramp into possition. Two 50 ton service cranes are fitted amidships to lift vehicles and/or cargo.

20x30 ton tanks and 350 troops and combined operations personell can be carried representing 1,300 tons of misc weight.

Total misc weight devoted to amphibious operations 1,800 tons. Remainder (2,400 tons) goes to ballast, fresh water, berthing for troops, additional cargo.
