Russian Federation Navy, having extensively discussed future impact of naval aviation in pages of this journal, have commenced of conversion of 11,000 ton collier Canopus into first Russian Federation Navy ship capable of having aircraft land on deck of ship underway. Ship is 155m in length at waterline, 18m in beam at waterline, and 6m in draft, and is envisioned to carry 28-32 aircraft. Work will be done in Drydock #1 at Sevastopol, and is expected to require 12-14 months. Readers may be assured that composition of naval aviation wing will be extensively debated in journal Morskoi Sbornik. Excercises in short-distance take-off and landing of fighter and torpedo-carrying aircraft continue at 200m simulated aircraft carrier deck at Nikolaev. It has been discovered, for instance, that landing while carrying torpedo is not advisable.

Accident investigation commission recovered two badly bent landing gear from crater. Commission developed two "Lessons Learned" from examination of recovered landing gear:

1) Make stronger landing gear.
2) Jettison the #@%^&@#!!* torpedo.

Aircraft carrying bombs adapt Rule 2 to their situation as needed.

Let's just hope they are not dumb enough to launch the torpedo before coming in to land.

They may miss the deck then....

....due to the evasive manover of the carrier!

Not a good idea, though....
