Imperial Persian Gendarmerie Air Service

The Air Service of the Gendarmerie was formed to control civilian air traffic both domestic and foreign in Persian airspace.

Equipment:

40 Curtiss P-36A-2*

Organization:

The IPGAS is deployed in ten four aircraft flights throughout the country with more expected to be formed at a later date. During war time the IPGAS forms the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Independent fighter squadron

Gendermerie Intervention Divisions

The Gendarmeries are the most heavily armed part of Persia’s Security Forces. Their main elements were the two Intervention Divisions created during the Persian Civil War. Both units kept their general wartime organization for the most part but some improvements were introduced to the unit in the period of 1939-1941. Their 37mm guns were replaced by Bharati Type 94 50mm antitank guns, their old British tanks were replaced by Skoda-Davao Lt-33 (P) (1) also armed with the Bharati 50mm gun, their motorcycle AT/AA units changed their guns for 25mm guns and a company of Sandspringer tank destroyers was added to the order of battle.

(4) Three battalions mounted in carriers, the last one was mounted in modified Tatra trucks plated over with 14mm of steel for protection against small arms.

A total of 150 Independent Security Gendarme Companies were dispersed across the country. They were utilized mainly for border protection and anti-partisan operations.

Gendarme Independent Tank and Armored Car Companies:

A total of 25 companies were dispersed throughout the country. By 1941 they were still under reorganization. Some companies had a mix and match of older vehicles while others inherited used ex-British and Bharati tanks. An attempt was being made to at least create an standard with newer Bharati equipment but the Kachhuaa could barely be consider a tank, with the Agjar III armored car actually being better armed and protected.

A total of fifty battalions are dispersed throughout the country, mainly near the border areas but in some cases being utilized to support anti-partisan operations in the interior. The type of artillery pieces between units differs due to their missions and terrain.

(3) Number and type of vehicles depends of the unit. In the Turkish border they have less motorized equipment.
