Chilean Navy Future Plans

Projects in Progress
Proyecto-C
Proyecto-C incorporates the Chilean Navy's intent to add a 33-knot fleet carrier capable of launching at least sixty aircraft. One vessel of this class is under construction, tentatively named Libertad.

Proposed Projects
Proyecto-E
This project is developing a series of flotilla leader or light scout cruiser designs. Tentative plans call for three vessels to replace the Ministro Zentento-class flotilla leaders (sold to Colombia in 1936). Specifications indicate six to eight 15cm guns or eight to ten 13cm dual-purpose guns, combined with a formidable torpedo battery and 34-knot speed.

Proyecto-F
Classified at present. Modern capital ship with 340mm or 381mm main guns.

Proyecto-G
The Proyecto-G designs are designed to create a follow-on to the existing Atacama-class light cruisers. Specifications require at least twelve 15cm guns, strong secondary armament, and torpedoes. A 12x8" heavy cruiser has been seriously proposed for this requirement.

Projects 1938-1939

The following projects are in the think-tank stage.

Proyecto-H
The Proyecto-H project team is responsible for assessing future troop transports and amphibious warships.
- Proyecto-H1: Troopship
- Proyecto-H2: Tank/Vehicle Landing Ship
- Proyecto-H3: Tank/Vehicle Landing Craft
- Proyecto-H4: Landing Ship Infantry
- Proyecto-H5: Landing Craft Infantry
- Proyecto-H6: Naval Gunfire Support Ship (aka monitor)
- Proyecto-H7: Attack Transport/Cargo-carrying destroyer
- Proyecto-H8: Landing Ship Dock

Proyecto-I
The Proyecto-I project team proposes a refit to the Guardia Marina Hyatt. Proposals include a rebuilt to increase her stability. One naval engineer has suggested rebuilding her to handle gyroplanes, though the Navy currently has none.

Proyecto-J
Submarine development for the Armada. Currently, the Armada de Chile's current leadershio does not see submarines being useful to their strategy of trade protection, but rather sees them as sea-denial weapons or coast-defense ships. While not ignored, they do not always receive priority in the Armada's funding proposals.
- Proyecto-J1: Coastal submarine, 600 tons maximum
- Proyecto-J2: Ocean submarine, 2,400 tons maximum: Selected for construction
- Proyecto-J3: Minelaying submarine, 4,000 tons maximum: Selected for construction
- Proyecto-J4: Submarine cruiser with 10" guns, 7,000 tons maximum: Rejected
- Proyecto-J5: Submarine aircraft carrier: Rejected

Proyecto-K
Next-generation destroyer.
- Proyecto-K41: 8x130mm 34-knot destroyer with radar. 3,000 tons maximum.
- Proyecto-K42: 4-6x150mm 34-knot destroyer with radar. 4,000 tons maximum.

Proyecto-L
Committee formed to investigate torpedo boats and motor gunboats.
