Machine Guns

Light Machine Guns
FN Browning BAR
Very early in the 1930s the Chilean Army acquired through somewhat circuitous means Belgian-made copies of the Browning BAR, chambered for 7x57mm Mauser rather than .30/06. (Fabrique Nationale was prohibited from exporting to South America due to its license agreements.) Some versions also have a pistol grip (as per the Browning wz 28). These weapons were heavily used during the Andean War and by 1940 were completely withdrawn from service in favor of the general purpose belt-fed MG37.
- Caliber: 7x57mm Mauser
- Action: Gas-operated, tilting breech block
- Overall length: 1,194 mm
- Barrel length: 610 mm
- Weight: 7.25 kg
- Feeding: 20 rounds in detachable box magazines

Medium Machine Guns
MG31 / Bolo Thirty
The Bolo Thirty medium machine gun was first provided by Atlantis during the Andean War. Although partially replaced by the MG37 GPMG, the Bolo Thirty remains in use, primarily on vehicle ring-mounts.
- Caliber: 7x57mm Mauser
- Action: Recoil-operated/short-recoil operation
- Overall length: 1,346 mm
- Barrel length: 610 mm
- Weight: 14 kg
- Feeding: Belt

General Purpose Machine Guns
Ametrallar Modelo MG37 GPMG
The MG37 is intended to replace both the FN Browning BAR and the Bolo Thirty in many smaller infantry formations. It was designed for high rate of fire, reliability, and light weight. Though adopted in 1937, FAMAE did not start producing them en masse until mid-1940. They were initially deployed to units similarly equipped with FM36 rifles.
- Caliber: 6.5x51mm Nemesis
- Action: Recoil-operated/short-recoil operation
- Overall length: 1250 mm
- Barrel length: 610 mm
- Weight: 9.95 kg (with bipod and light barrel)
- Feeding: Belt fed; can accept 50-round "can" magazines for firing on the move.
