Atlantean AT36/76

Question: is the text or the picture correct on this vehicle? The picture shows a quite short main gun, a howitzer of some sort, similar to the 75mm/24 on the OTL early Panzer IVs. The text, on the other hand, shows a 75mm/45, which would be a much longer gun, similar to the OTL late model Panzer IVs with their 75mm/43s or 75mm/48s.

Wes probably has a reason why he did not edit the picture to make the guns longer than they originally are.

A quick (~5 minute) edit of two of the pictures to make the guns longer. With the Type 96, I actually calculated the length of the gun in the linedrawing. Here I just made a guess as to how long 45 calibers is. I think that the shot from the side/rear can work the way it is ("turret being slightly turned to the right").

Nice quick update, but I think the barrel would be longer than that, judging by pictures of the later models of the T-34/76 and the Panzer IV. A picture of the T-34 with a 40.5 caliber gun is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:T-34-7…eum_Munster.jpg , so the Atlantean tank should have a longer tube than that.

The pictures are of the Prototype durring trials, mounting a much smaller gun, so yes there is a discrepency in the barrel length in the pictures when compared to the stats. I do have to get to posting the correct picture amoung other things.

No problems. I would use the original one of the first version which would be the "Prototype durring trials, mounting a much smaller gun" (I would have to do some more serious editing to make the picture longer and still look good) while that second one I made would be the one with the actual 75/45 gun.

Judging by the picture of the T-34 in Munster, it looks like the 40.5 caliber gun should extend about a foot to a foot and a half beyond the track guards. That puts a 45 caliber barrel out another foot, and the 50 caliber tube on the Japanese Type 96 would be 2.5 feet longer than the later T-34/76.

Anyway, regardless of the picture, why is Atlantis using a long barreled 75 on this vehicle?

Because its a new gun similar to existing Atlantean 75mm feild guns, 75/27/1914 L36 and 75/36/1933 L48.

1936 is, IMO, a bit too early for this vehicle, even 1937 is pushing things. I'd be happier with 1938-39, but I understand the way things are creeping. Also, if your crew is laid out the way the text claims (commander, loader, gunner, driver) you're going to need a larger turret than the T-34/76 had and the front hull MG has no one to operate it. The correct crew layout would be commander, gunner, driver, radio-operator/front hull machinegunner.
