Tung Meng 150S

The Tung Meng SP150S is a self-propelled gun developed by the Imperial Chinese Army. Inspired by the self propelled artillery vehicles developed by Germany, wherein a infantry support gun was mounted on a tracked chassis, engineers at the Army Technical Bureau resolved to do the same. Production was assigned to Tung Meng Heavy Industries.
The gun has a range of round about 6000 meters. The gun crew is protected by an open gun shield with armor thickness of 25mm to the front and 15mm to the side.
Nearly 250 vehicles were build till 1943.

RS-50b

According to the findings in the Persian war, Colonel Wang proposed to set up storm artillery units. With their heavy armament on chain-driven chassis they should serve at direct support of infantry divisions and be in a position to destroy enemy bunkers and fortified positions.

Assault guns can be built faster, easier and less expensive than regular tanks, because they do not have rotating turrets. The gun is inserted into the front of the vehicle, so it must be turned to roughly aligning the entire vehicle, while the fine adjustment is via a ball joint. Other advantages additional to the low price, is the low silhouette and the heavy armor in the front.

In February 1942, the CTMCO (Chinese Tractor Manufacturer Company) handed over the first 12 prototypes to the Chinese army.

Serial production started with the beginning of 1943.

During the Persian war, the then commander of the Chinese forces raised the demand for motorized and armored artillery, which can follow the armored units to the action and so the necessary artillery support could be given. It has been shown that the existing vehicles of the type Tung Meng SP75 were completely inadequate.

Tung Meng was therefore commissioned to develop a successor model. The result of years of design work and extensive testing on the Army Test Side near Harbin is the TM 105 SP or alternatively with a 12cm Howitzer the TM 120 SP.

In mid 1943 only 60 vehicles were built.
