I assume the R-73 class has a similar speed to the R-50's?

Yeah, the difference is actually marginal. The whole R-class serie is more about evolution than revolution. Modifications are done to armament and deck arrangement but otherwise the boats do not vary that much regarding "hard facts" (read: SS stats).

For the most part yes. The R-73 class is better in the armament department though with double the firepower. I am surprised however that they don't have smaller HMG's or provisions for some.

You´re right. I thought about that too. It might have been better to add a 13mm HMG or two instead of more machine cannons. Higher ROF might be a good trade off for the heavier shell. But these are more like the british MGBs of WW2, meant to provide fire support because during the war it turned out the former R classes were probably not armed heavy enough.

But I keep your comment in mind. This R73 series will not be large anyway and the next evolution of the design, then more focused on patrol, pilot and police service might show reduced armament again, then including HMGs.

Btw, light MGs of 7,62mm caliber I do not add to a sim in general. Such weapon would weight only ~10kg plus ammo and could easily be added anytime anyway...

I wouldn't haggle over guns in the 7.7mm range, as you say they really don't effect wieght that much (unless your packing a few hundred in crates :P )

Most Atlantean light craft have 50 cal weapons on them simply to add to the firepower. They may not do significant damage to another MTB or MGB but exposed crew are easily vulnerable to such weapons so if the battle gets close enough....

Well, I plan to use these R-class vessels on the rivers in South America first place. There MGs do have some merrit as they are good when stopping ships for investigation (4cm might be too aggressive) or in case of fire-fights against bandits on rhe shore. Against infantry (regular or irregular) machine guns are just "fine".
