A thread to describe armored vehicles in use by the United States.

The M-7 light armored car is the WW equivalent of the historical M-8 "Greyhound" armored car.

6x6, powered by a 150 hp engine, armed with a 1.5" gun and a coaxial .30": MG in the open-topped turret and a second .30" MG in an AA mounting, with light armor all around, and a weight of 7 tons.

The M-10 light armored car can be thought of as a stretched M-8:

8x8, powered by a 200 hp engine, armed with a 2" gun and a coaxial .30": MG in the open-topped turret and a second .30" MG in an AA mounting, with light armor all around, and a weight of 9.25 tons.

These vehicles are as historical. Most of the vehicles procured are of the M2A4 subtype.

The M-3 light tank has succeeded the M-2 light tank in production, and is the same vehicle as the historical models (in 1937, the only model in production is the standard M3).

The WW M-4 medium tank is very similar to the historical M4 medium tank, with production of the M-4 beginning in 1937.

Armament consists of a 3"/30 howitzer in the turret with a .30" coaxial MG, with 2 fixed .30" MGs beside the co-driver and a flexible .30" MG operated by the co-driver in the hull and a fifth .30" MG in a AA mounting for use by the commander. The crew is five men: commander, gunner, loader, driver, and co-driver. Armor, as built for the M-3, ranges from .25" up to 2". Weight is under 25 tons.


The M4A1 series began production in 1939, and replaced the 3" howitzer of the M4 with a 4" howitzer, and removed the fixed .30" MGs. Armor remained the same, while weight increased to 26 tons.

The first vehicle built for the new Tank Destroyer Corps, the M-8 is a product of J. Walter Christie's Track Wheel Laying Corporation, though the version accepted for service has no provision for running on it's road wheels alone.
