Bump, because the reports are now posted

Don't forget for your Q4/36 report...

Chile sent you four DM35-class minesweepers (originally DM-13 through DM-16 and .4 IP. I know we discussed the IP over private message; if you don't need it, then I'll run my dock upgrade as I mentioned to you earlier, but I'll need to tweak some of my reports to show that it didn't just fall into a hole somewhere.

4

Friday, June 12th 2009, 11:10am

Fixed the minesweepers.

The main reason for needing the IP's was that none of Brazil's current drydocks would hold the Rio's so at least 1 needed to be upgraded to a type 4, with the infrastructure rules at the time. A Type 3.5 will serve my current, and projected needs (the HDW BC fits in one), and effectively limits the next capital ship, my flagship, to around 40,000 tons, so a Vanguard or an Iowa is out, although I can still do a 1940 Lion if someone gets around to putting a 16in gun in triple turrents instead of the profileration of 16.5/17/18in we currently have (potential customer here)

5

Okay, then I'll fix my reports and use the IP myself.

I could give you a Philomedes/Neptune hybrid type with 16.5" guns, simply incerting a liner to down grade them to 16".

Friday, June 12th 2009, 11:37pm

Relining a 16.5" gun to 16" still leaves you with the weight of a 16.5" gun...plus a heavier liner.

The US is in the process of regunning the Bix Six and I think the battlecruisers with 16"; I'd inquire there.

Tho' you'd get a higher MV and the option for a much heavier shell weight.

I got the implication that Canadian-dude is trying to keep weight down on any possible ship (and by extension, it's prospective armament). Elsewise, why not just use unmodified 16.5" guns?

Shin pretty much has hit the nail on the head here.

I could go with a 16.5in gun, however to get an acceptable balance of firepower, armour, and speed, it drives the weight up to around 45,000 tons, something thats a bit much for Brazil.

Well the problem is if you want a 16-16.5" gunned battleship, 45,000 tons will give you the best balanced design against other wesworld designs. You can design a 40,000 ton BB but you'll have to sacrifice speed, armour or number of guns to do it.

I suppose I could revise the orriginal Neptune deign, which really was too large to be a cruiser killer and too small to be a true BB.

If Brazil would be satisfied with a 6 gun broadside, you could consider upgunning that a bit.

13

Sunday, June 14th 2009, 1:29am

I have a 3x4 12" gunned design and a 3x3 14" design in the works. Both head up towards 37,000 tons.

14

Sunday, June 14th 2009, 7:57am

Im ordering two of the HDW type ships already, so Ive probably got enough BC's. Had I started in 1930, I would have gone with that option, but ive got to deal the hand ive got.

Going with the WW traditional of 3 triples, does mean that its pretty much impossible to get 30 knot speed, acceptable protection (15in belt, 6in deck), on less than 42,000 tons. However, going with 2 quadruples on an all forward layout drops displacement down to 39,000 tons, which is actually more acceptable. Now if only someone made quadruple 16in turrents.......

Japan has twins. Just cut up the sides and glue the turrets together and you have a quad. :D
