12 bahman 1315 - 1306 Y.Z. Amardad Mareshpand (Febraury 1, 1937)

Debate concerning the Imperial defense Council and the Shah´s control over the most powerful part of the armed forces has been raging for some days now in the Majlis where the "constitutional" faction is demanding that the IDC be replaced by an permanent defense committee in the Majlis. To quote one of the speakers on the IDC issue:

So what has the IDC done to ensure the security of this great nation? They have made pleasure trips around the world, bought aircraft that can´t fly, rifles so sensitive they can´t be used in the field and tanks that can´t move!

There is also a lot of aversion to the Shah controlling the Pushtighaban without any Majlis insight.

In other news the IDC has put up the MTB´s Jarahi and Mand for sale while the Douglas O-2M´s will be de-militarized and given to local flying clubs.

A number of Caucasian Visents have been found in a remote area (the exact location has been with held) creating great excitement among Persian zoologists, according to sources within the National heritage ministry the area is now under the protection of a strong detachment Gendarmes while a decision whether to leave them in the wild or capture them for breeding is taken.

21 bahman 1315 -1306 Y.Z. Shehrevar Dae-Pa-Adar (February 10,1937)

After a three day recess the debate on the future of the armed forces continues. From what we can understand the proposal from the constitutional faction is slowly getting more backers in the Majlis. The core of this proposal is to transfer the Gendarme Intervention Brigade and the majority of the Pushtigaban into a newly formed Motorized Troops Command only leaving one or two Zhayedan battalions under the personal control of the Shah. According to sources close to the Shah a veto is to be expected should this motion pass.

The expected formation of a Bactrian Cavalry Brigade has been postponed as the Majlis is locked in confrontation over the Pushtigaban.

Aw, I was wanting to know more about the buffalo... er, wisents.

Interesting is the conflict between the Majlis and the Shah.

17

Tuesday, February 10th 2009, 2:03am

I don´t know what is better for the Wisents, leave them be (under protection) or capture and breed program.

Suggestions?

18

Tuesday, February 10th 2009, 2:09am

Difficult to say, I suppose...

I think the best thing for now might be a capture and breed program. A bit of digging shows that the Caucasian Wisent was historically killed off in 1927, but a captured specimen went to Germany and participated in a breeding program. Wikipedia also says American bison were imported and released into the wild. Perhaps Hrolf can have the US send Persia a few bison heifers, and you can build a purebreed herd and a halfbreed herd.

Captivity will at least keep the village morons from hunting them, IMHO.

This is going to be very ahistorical since the Caucasian Wisent didn´t live in Persia but hope fully people won´t mind. The capture and breed does seem best especially if I can get the Poles and Germans supply some European Wisents or have a joint breeding program under the earlier agreed Wildlife organization

While the excuse is overused...

We've got Atlantis, so I think I can overlook a few wisents showing up in Persia! :P

((Wonders now what kind of interesting wildlife Atlantis might have...? Atlantean Barbary Lions? Atlantean Wisents? Hmmm...))
