Infanteria de Marina de Chile

The Infanteria de Marina de Chile (or Chilean Marine Corps, nicknamed the "Cossacks") is the naval infantry arm of the Armada de Chile. The Cossacks are charged with making amphibious assaults, ensuring security aboard ships and in naval bases, and operating the various coast defense installations.

The main infantry arm of the IMC is composed of six battalion-sized detatchments, or Destacamento de Infantería, which form the Chilean Marine Brigade:

- DIM No. 1 "Lynch"
- DIM No. 2 "Pisagua"
- DIM No. 3 "Aldea"
- DIM No. 4 "Cochrane"
- DIM No. 5 "Miller"
- DIM No. 6 "Aguila"

Four additional company-sized units of Marines are stationed aboard the attack transports Parinacota, Copahue, Tronador, and Lascar. These units are called Special Amphibious Assault Companies (Compañía Especial de Asalto Anfibio), but are more regularly referred to as the Marine Cossacks.
- CEAA No. 1 (Parinacota)
- CEAA No. 2 (Copahue)
- CEAA No. 3 (Tronador)
- CEAA No. 4 (Lascar)

The IMC is also responsible for manning the coastal batteries, and have seven major Coastal Artillery Brigades (Brigada de Artillería Costera).
- BAC No. 1 Valparaiso
- BAC No. 2 Talcahuano
- BAC No. 3 Arica
- BAC No. 4 Iquique
- BAC No. 5 Puerto Montt
- BAC No. 6 Valdivia
- BAC No. 7 Antofagasta

The Chilean Marines are also present on many Chilean Navy ships, where they are employed as naval gunners, ship security teams, and naval boarding teams. Many larger ships* have a platoon or more of Marines who are qualified as naval boarding teams. Finally, the IMC is responsible for the security of naval bases, the Navy commander-in-chief, state shipyards, radio transmitters, and other locations as required by the Navy. These tasks are carried out by units formed as necessary for the job.
