- 4 x 1.1"/L70 AA guns in twin mountings
- 6 x 21" torpedoes
- 6 x DCs or mines
Ships in Class: Vina del Mar
Notes and History: In 1940, facing the expected obsolescence of nearly thirty-six destroyers in only five years, the Armada de Chile investigated whether a smaller vessel, derived from an oversize MTB, could serve as a coastal patrol vessel in lieu of a full-sized destroyer. A single experimental vessel was ordered from William Denny and Brothers in the UK to investigate the concept's utility. After an initial working-up period off western Scotland, the Vina del Mar arrived in Chile and was heavily tested by the Armada, leading to the eventual order for the Star-class Sea Gunboats in 1942.

Loa-class, Chilean Patrullero laid down 1944
This subchaser design originated in the United States and was purchased by the Chilean Navy for construction in the ASENAV shipyards of Valdivia. They will replace, in part or in whole, the aging SC-1 subchaser class acquired from Atlantis. The class shares many similarities with the smaller YDM-1 class minesweepers, but the Loa-class incorporates more speed and a higher level of seakeeping. The ships will be named after Chilean rivers.
