Second Quarter 1922 attachment III

Subject: Progress on the Dowager Eisho class Japanese Ocean Liner.

Tokugawa-dono,

Since you recently informed me that you also wished to be kept informed about the construction of the civilian ships of the Dowager Eisho class, I’ve inquired with the Civilian Shipbuilding Department and can give you the next information…

========================================
Report from the Civilian Shipbuilding Department
From: CSD
To: Nakamura Shoda
Subject: Dowager Eisho Class progress report

Nakamura-sama,
Here is the information you have requested:

Fourth quarter (1921) information.
Factories XVI to XXV are assigned to produce materials to be used in the warships for a total of 10000 tons in the quarter. Besides the Warship materials, these factories also produce materials used by the civilian yards. Of the total output of our factories, 2/3 is for warships (1000 tons per quarter) and 1/3 is for civilian use (500 tons per quarter).
The Empress Yoshiko was laid down on October 1 and will require 48 months construction time and 38.997 tons of materials. Pretty much all materials that are released by the factories (5,000 tons) are put into this project. She still requires 45 months and 33,997 tons of materials at the end of the fourth quarter.

First quarter (1922) information.
Factories XIV to XXV produce 6000 tons of civilian materials in the quarter, which are all used for the Empress Yoshiko.
The Empress Yoshiko still requires 42 months and 27,997 tons of materials at the end of the first quarter.

Second quarter (1922) information.
Factories XIII to XXV produce 6500 tons of civilian materials in the quarter.
The Empress Yasuko was laid down on April 1 and will require 48 months construction time and 38.997 tons of materials.
Of the 6,500 tons produced, each ship gets 3250 tons.
The Empress Yoshiko still requires 39 months and 24,747 tons of materials at the end of the second quarter.
The Empress Yasuko still requires 45 months and 35,747 tons of materials at the end of the second quarter.

We shall keep you informed about the progress.

Konoye Fumimaro
Director of the Civillian Shipbuilding Department
