[SIZE=3]1940 Organization[/SIZE]
The 1940 Organization was a result of the Irish contribution to the League of Nations Afghan Field Force, starting in 1940. The Army staff bolstered the peacetime strength of the Irish I Brigade by adding a fourth platoon to the infantry company, and raised the battalion-level "machinegun platoon" to a full company. A transport company was officially added at the brigade level. Further changes were made in 1941 as a result of lessons learned during the deployment.
