Some stuff from Nordmark

1937 is mainly a year of cruisers for Nordmark, as the Admiralty strives to modernise this arm of the Navy.

First comes the Victoriahamn Class CL's, a new larger more capable design.

While a dedicated AA cruiser was considered, it was rejected as too dedicated, thus this design is equipped to deal with a reasonably heavy AA armament.

I´d go with the bigger guns even if it´s just for the bigger BOOM! ;o)

3

Thursday, November 13th 2008, 8:40pm

I'd stick with the 210mm guns. More guns on the broadside and heavier broadside overall.

Of course if you think the 210mm can't keep up with the likely newer threats then maybe the 240mm is a better move. If your building another class after these then it might make economic sense to switch gun types now.

The CL probably doesn't need 4 shafts, but the CAs might well need 4 instead of 2.

5

I must admit I like the big guns = big bang theory.

As for the shafts, I have probably just forgotten to change it as the designs got bigger, I will adjust them in the final versions.

Yup

On the issue of the 21cm vs 24cm guns, given the spreading adoption of larger guns for cruisers, I'd expect the better choice is the 24cm weapon. It also will give better performance against Treaty cruisers, which could be useful in the future.

On the Victoriahamn class, the amount of ammunition for the main battery is, perhaps, a bit high. A quick look at NavWeaps shows the most comparable ships (US Brooklyn, Cleveland, Fargo, and UK Town, Fiji, etc classes) carrying 200 rounds per gun. Extra ammo is no bad thing, certainly, but it's a nit to look at.

The number of shells is likely on the high side, likely a layover from the original design which was an outgrowth of an AA Cruiser. I have revised the design a bit, but will keep stowage at 200 shells as these ships may well be expected to undertake South Atlantic Cruises where access to fresh supplies of ammunition are more limited

Design revised as below:-

Also planned for 1937 is the X37 (or Hok) Class CV, designed to incorporate some of the lessons learned from Nordmarks early carriers, the design features a number of relatively new ideas including a deck edge lift which is of a skeletal design, folded up in normal conditions (like OTL Wasp)
