emm, just a question.....

...how do you launch a sub before it's completed??

Isn't that what subs are supposed to do? :D

"Nothing to see here, move along..."

Observers in Hong Kong will see a very large barbed wire topped wall being erected around the dock as well as mean looking guard dogs patrolling the site...

Yeah, but only when you want them to, aka when all the holes are sealed......

I must admit I never thought much about it at the time. I just copy and pasted what RLBH put down for the P Class.

Just assume I mean that is when the boat is 40% complete. ;)

But that's the issue, I have always assumed that a sub thats 40% built is a sieve, and shouldn't by launched until the day it starts sea trials, at least that way you can guarantee that all the plates are in place!!

The hull can be structurally complete (and capable of floating) before all the knick knacks and ameneties are installed, folks. Just like any other ship.

The rule says 40% for all ships, if you feel subs need a different rule, I'd suggest starting a thread elsewhere to discuss it, guys. (:

With your permission, sir, I will do that.

I'd say that subs need to have much more gear installed prior to launch... I mean, there's going to be a ton of stuff which can't be stuffed through the hatches too well. Maybe 60-75%?

I'd even go higher, but the simple way to play it, is that a sub occupies it's slip from laying of keel to COMPLETION, not the 40% rule used for surface vessels.

When you think about what is inside the hull of a submarine, about the only things that can be left off until after launch are on the outside; guns and maybe the periscope. Even today, they are launched essentially complete.
