January 8th

Coquimbas Air Force Base, Columbia, 1st Special Bombardment Squadron FAM

"Good Morning Colonel, what brings you out the flight line?"

"I'll be flying with you today, captain."
.
.
.
(once airborne)

"Captain, you have just suffered an inflight failure of your radio and the navigation equipment is acting screwy. The rest of you, this is just a routine training mission, we just had some technical difficulties. Got that?"

"Yes sir!"

"Very well, nav, set course..."

January 8th

Pacific Ocean, Cinco de Mayo

"Capitan! Incoming orders from the SECDEF."

The orders didn't make sense. Head to Cancun? Why where they ordering Mexico's only carrier into the Caribbean? Well maybe the next orders would clear everything up. But via courier? That was strange.

"Teniente, set course for the Panama Canal, make your speed 15 knots."

The carrier was on its way...

February 1st

Yesterday a massive explosion rocked the city of Hermosillo. The cause of the explosion is yet unkown, but some eyewitnesses claim to have seen a small fast object in the sky just before the explosion. When asked to describe the object all they could say was that it made a sound 'like a mosquito'. While the cause remains unknown, it is beleive that it's conected to some military project, as soon after the explosion, troops arrived to secure the site. Casualties are unknown at the moment but a few ambulances where seen leaving the site.

I hope the Mexicans have learned a lesson there: never test your weapons in the vicinity of a city. :)

Hmmmmmm.....

What? Iberia is going to try and convince the Mexicans that all their weapon tests should take place inside the cities? :)

Atlantis hopes that mexico doesn't do anything stupid, as I'm sure they are aware the U.S., Iberia and Atlantis have taken steps to rachet down tentions in the region.

OOC: Foxy if you are up to something you'd better script it with Mac.

Iberia has done everything BUT that.

I'm just going sightseeing. ;)

Iberia has done what to rachet up tentions? Please explain?

10

Tuesday, May 27th 2008, 2:37am

Iberia has done everything but try to step down tensions. Just in the past two years Iberia has bought a huge amount of aircraft and has built a number of top secret military installations in Panama. Those actions don't exacly make Mexico feel better.

Atlantis has purchased large amounts of aircraft as well in addition to helping mexico protect the mexican canal project. This could also be seen as provocative.

The fact that they have negotiated with the U.S. and Atlantis in an effort to reduce all threes naval presence in the caribbean is worth noting as well.

How secret are the Mexican Canal defences? The very secrecy of the Iberian projects hint at an offensive nature. For deterance to work you need to reveal the nature of the defences. The Atlantic Wall and the Maginot Line where not secret, the Ardennes Offensive and the Normandy Invasion were.

Mexico also has a Pacific side. And what is to stop Iberia from basing ships in the Pacific side of the Canal and then transfering them rapidly across the Canal?

I'll accept your point about the secrecy, but would Mexico have reacted any differently if it was made public?

Nothing is stoping Atlantean ships from visiting Colombia and the Americans are fully entitled to base ships in the Pacific.

Most probably. Most of my recent actions are a direct result of the secrecy.

But only Iberia has direct access to the Canal. So for the time being only Iberia has the capability to quickly and drasticlly shift the balance of power.

They control the canal itself but they still have to transit hazardous waters to pass through it, hazardous in wartime that is.

First and foremost whats the most likely senario to play out for a war Between Mexico and Iberia at this particular point?

Mexico is just paranoid. Whatever Iberia does, Mexico sees it as the prelude to an attack. In reality we just need to sit back and watch Mexico run its economy into the ground with all this new armament. Doubling the armed services budget??

*Waits around to buy bunches of Mexican stuff when they go bankrupt.*

When your Armed Forces buget is small to begin with doubling it won't hurt a bit. It will even help the local economy as most purchases will be local.

Well Iberia has not done anything to make Mexico think otherwise. Huge numbers of assault craft, bombers, and now secret projects, oh and invasion preparations cloaked under jokes of Moon invasions. If Iberia is such a peaceloving nation, why do they need large numbers of assault landing craft?

That last is a question that the USN is quietly asking as well. It could be just sheer preparedness, being ready to take BACK something that someone else might be wanting to take away, but ........

I guess it depends were they deploy them. Atlantis has its own assualt craft but no where near whats needed for a proper assualt.
