A.3 Heavy Artillery

A.3 Heavy Artillery

120mm FG Cockerill-FRC M1931
The 120mm gun was designed as a fairly mobile heavy gun. The piece had split trail carriage with suspension, and consequently improved mobility and traverse. Additionally, the gun had greater range than its contemporaries. (stats derived from several places)
on display

Projectile : 26kg

ROF : 2-4rpm

155mm FG Cockerill M1924
Designed as a more modern replacement for the pre-great war guns. Split tail carriage with rubber tired wheels allows artillery tractors to tow at reasonable speeds. (Stats derived from the M1917 and US Long Tom). The Belgians are interested in pairing the gun with the new Dutch carriage. The new split-trail carriage features four roadwheels, each mounting two tires. The wheels could be lifted, allowing the gun to rest on a firing platform. This made the gun very stable and thus accurate. (data derived from several sources)

Projectile : 55kg
MV : 810m/s
Range : 22,700m
Weight : 13.2tonnes
Elevation : -2 to +65

A.4 Anti-Tank Artillery

A.4 Anti-Tank Artillery

13.2mm FN-Browning AAGs and 20mm Madsen AAGs are both issued with AP-I ammunition for anti-vehicle use, see Anti-aircraft Artillery for details

FRC C 47 L/30 D - 47 mm Anti-Tank Gun
Designed and produced by Fonderie Royale de Canons (FRC), the pneumatic tires and suspension allow the gun to be towed at high speed. The gun is fielded in both towed and fixed versions, as well as the main armament for several tank destroyers. The relatively low weight of the gun allows it to be manhandled.

Projectile : 1.56kg (AP) MV : 675m/s
Range : 2000m AP eff
Weight : 525kg
Elevation : -5 to +20
Traverse: 20deg.
ROF : 18rpm

Pen: roughly 47mm at 300m*
*This is the reported figure. BigGun gives 57.7mm vs. facehardened at 0 deg, but 47.5mm vs facehardened at 30deg
A 1.67kg HE shell fired at 450m/s to a 5400m range is also available.

FRC C 60 / L50 D 60mm Anti-tank gun
Designed and produced by Fonderie Royale de Canons (FRC), this gun is designed to be a fortress anti-tank cannon capable of destroying tanks at long ranges. Designed with a semi-automatic breech block, highly accurate and rapid fire can be sent downrange.

The gun is not currently available in a mobile form as the necessary carriage and recoil systems would place the weight at roughly 1330kg in traveling mode. The projected need would be for a split-trail carriage with gunshield and coil spring suspension, to allow towing with a speed of up to 50 km/h on highways, 30 km/h on unpaved roads and 10 km/h off-road. This is deemed unsuitable for the expected highly mobile requirements of Belgian ATGs on the defensive, with a need for both retrograde motion, rapid containment of assaults, and overwatch leapfrogging in counterattacks.

Projectile : 3.6kg (AP)
MV : 910+m/s
Range : 3000m AP eff
Weight : Fixed
Elevation : -20 to +5 (fortress)
Traverse: 20deg.
ROF : 20rpm

Pen: roughly 99mm at 300m*
*No reported figure. BigGun gives 120mm vs. facehardened at 0 deg, but 98.9mm vs facehardened at 30deg
A 3.02kg HE shell fired at 500m/s to a 3000m (5deg elev) range is also available.

B.1 Pistols

FN model 1910/22
The FN 1910/22 is a later variant of the M1910. An early Browning design, the M1910 was offered in several chamberings. An FM M1910 in 9mm x 17mm Browning short (.380acp) was used to assassinate Archduke Ferdinand.

caliber : 7.65 x 17
action : blowback operated semi-automatic

Weight : 0.705kg loaded
magazine : 8 round magizine
MV : 260m/s

Nagant M1895 Revolver
Developed by Emile and Leon Nagant, this revolver has been popular in Russian service. The revolver is highly unusual in that the when the hammer is drawn back the cylinder moves forward to make a gas seal with the barrel, which is aided by the cartridge design. This increases muzzle velocity, enhances accuracy, and avoids gas escape thus allowing the fitting of a silencer. This arrangement makes reloading slow, but the revolver can be safely carried loaded. Production in Liege restarted in 1919, as the revolver is allowed as an alternative sidearm for officers.

caliber : 7.62 x 38
action : double action revolver
Length : 235mm
Weight : 0.75kg unloaded
magazine : 7 round cylinder
MV : 272m/s

Vickers Mk.VI Self-Propelled Guns
After determining that the Carden-Loyd Mk VI tankette was unsatisfactory as a gun tractor, the Belgian army decided that they may be useful as a gun carriage. A shielded 47mm ATG was mounted on the bow and these vehicles could fire only forwards (the gun which cannot swivel) while their mobility in cross-country remained hazardous (especially in the Ardennes forest). This vehicle was viewed as an ambush platform, or capable of direct fire support of cavalrymen.

D.1 Staff Cars

Imperia-Abadel
Imperia produces fast, reliable, powerful automobiles at its Nessonvaux factory. The cars feature many advanced features. including a sunroof, transmission brake, an electric motor/generator, batteries, and a 1100cc gasoline engine. It used the electric motor to charge its batteries at cruise speed and used both motors to accelerate or climb a hill. Capable of 140km/hr, it is a credit to Belgian Engineering.

1931 Minerva AL General Staff Car
A clean elegant car for the high command. Like all Minervas, it uses a derivative of the Knight Engine, with double sleeve valves reducing engine noise to negligible levels. There is also a 4L AP model, but the Generals insist the extra horse power is needed for something.

Brossel TAL 13 ton truck
A large 4x4 truck used as a heavy artillery tractor in all terrain. The mainstay of the Belgian artillery tractor-trucks, this vehicle is fitted with run-flat tires.
Rarely is the vehicle required to carry its full potential, with common loads being towed. Fully laden, with a PSI of 24.7, it generally stays on firm surfaces, but if air is released the partially inflated tires will lower the PSI to 16.8. For off-road travels, towed carriages reduce the pressure, and with an unladen PSI of 7.9/ 5.2 it really can manage virtually any terrain.
