Agas class Destroyer

Persia was to have purchased seven Bharati G-135 destroyers in 1941 and given them a life extension refit in 1942.

Acquisition was subsequently curtailed at two units, and neither received a refit, as their in-service life was expected to be brief.

DD Agas, ex-Amritsar, laid down 1923, to Mexico 1944
DD Ahriman, ex-Gwalior, laid down 1923, to Mexico 1944

G-135, laid down 1923

Length, 106.7 m x Beam, 10.1 m x Depth, 3.2 m
1386 tonnes normal displacement (1268 tonnes standard)

Main battery: 4 x 10.5-cm
Secondary battery: 4 x 3.5-cm
AA battery: 2 x 1.5-cm

Weight of broadside: 67 kg

8 TT, 50.0 cm

Hull unarmored
Conning tower, 5.0 cm

Battery armor:
Main, 5.0 cm shields / secondary, 2.0 cm shields
AA, 2.0 cm shields

Maximum speed for 26009 shaft kw = 33.27 knots
Approximate cruising radius, 4500 nm / 12 knots

Typical complement: 114-148

Estimated cost, $1.907 million (£477,000)

Remarks:

Caution: Hull structure is subject to strain in open-sea
conditions.

Ship has slow, easy roll; a good, steady gun platform.

Magazines and engineering spaces are cramped, with poor
watertight subdivision.

Cramped ship; poor crew accommodation, limited working space.
