December 10
Four prize-winning stallions of the Karabakh breed, named the "Caspian Princes", have been gifted to four foreign leaders by the Azeri Society for Preservation of the Karabakh Horse, in order to raise awareness of the danger of the breed's possible extinction. "By showing these horses to the outside world we hope to gather interest from those who see the horse not merely as a tool of work and war, but as a true work of art. And art deserves to be preserved," ASPKH's spokesman said.

The Caspian Princes will be sent to the Queen of the Netherlands, the King of Great Britain, the President of the Russian Federation, and the King of Atlantis.

ASPKH is supported by the Azeri Government's Office of Culture.

The Queen would like to thank the Azeri Society for Preservation of the Karabakh horse, and the people of Azerbaijan for their precious gift. The Karabakh stallions are wonderfully built, and an understandable source of pride. I confess to be troubled by the news that this cultural icon is threatened.

My daughter, Princess Juliana was particularly taken by the fine horse, her late husband, Prince Karel (1), was a great horseman and heightened her admiration. The Princess is sure her late husband would have been concerned if there was something that could be done on behalf of these horses.

(1) To clarify for those not present when I wrote it, Crown Prince Karel of Belgium was an avid horseman, a 1932 Olympic medalist in the Steeplechase, and later died in a jumping accident.

Azerbaijan's president, Mammed Amin Rasulzade, sends a confidential appeal to the Persian shah, asking how his rumored dismissal of the national army will affect Persia's security, and by extension the security of its neighbors. "Although Azerbaijan and Persia do not always see eye to eye, we feel alarmed at the possibility of chaos and revolt in which our strong southern neighbor may find herself."

All Azeri officers serving within the Persian Army for training have been asked to return home. No public comments have yet been made by
