It would be a-historical to be much lighter: the only historical option is to trade in the nose .50 on a .30. The other weapons were always .50s in US service.

The 108B got flack because it had either 12 or 14 .50s.

I have to agree with Hrolf. Too many guns for the period. 12 to 14 guns is more at par with 1942 than 1935. The Indian bomber only have four rifle round machineguns.

It is also considerable difference between a Heavy bomber and a patrol aircraft. I even got flak using the almost historical armament of the TB-7 on the original 108

Why the Jumo-208 instead of the Twin Wasp?

The Pratt & Whitney RD-1650 gives the plane more range than the Twin Wasp, basically. On a patrol plane, whose main job is to fly for a long time at relatively slow speeds, the diesel engines are an advantage.

I'm curious, where is the ventral turret on a PBY? I have a 1:72 model of one and can't see it anywhere.

There is no ventral turret its a hatch but since every one finds it a-historical NOT to change all .30´s to .50 just add a turret

The ventral mounting is a tunnel, above the aft step. No turrets on the PBY-3, just flexible mountings. If there's a PBY-5 or -6, after wartime service, the nose mounting might become a turret.
