RHN C-8 Eurybiades Class Cruiser refit - 1934

Greece has elected to refit the 1923 scout cruisers. The refit includes new DP turrets and guns, new engine and boilers. Power has been boosted slightly pushing speed from 29kts to 30.3 knts while the CT, 3" aa guns and triple banks of torpedo tubes have been landed and two new quad banks of tubes added.

It is hoped that these ships can fill an escort role with a useful DP armament.

Nice diagrams.

I expect you've already got well considered answers to these, but hey, may as well ask :

I'm unclear why you are moving the boats forward and striking the forward TT tubes. While you install quads aft,there does not seem to be any gain.

Also, on the original you have some deck guns bracketing the forward funnel, and they are stricken on the rebuild. Why not replace them with 40mms like you did on the aft superstructure?

They are small ships and so are not very strong anyway, but they are tough for their size and will take some battering. The advantage is that there are nine of them.

The original TT were triples and had to be landed for weight. The new TT are the same as on new Destroyers. I tried to have enough room around them to load and work them. Greece is also seeing less need for torpedos on these ships so the battery was reduced.

I pulled the deck mount as it would get rather wet in that spot.

Still, those 25mm plates offer splinter protection at best. They won´t stop shells fired from 100mm guns and larger. So while these ships hull is a tough nut to crach I foresee them disarmed in a fight pretty quick.... Well, if they ever see action, that is. :o)

Agree it is mainly splinter protection but these are oversized destroyers rather than something to fight other cruisers in daylight. Disabling the armament is a small chance of a hit but the hull is well protected for their size. Perhaps I should game it.
