Poland News and Events Q3-Q4/1935

July 8th 1935- Minister Thaddeus Mital stated today that the statement of the Nordmark's government recognize that the freedom fighters in Lithuania have certain rights and that indeed they should be heard in an international forum. As such, while stopping short of giving full recognition to the so-called Republic of Wilno, Minister Mital stated that Poland will consider the lines between combatants on this date as being the ones of two belligerant factions and under the rules of a ceasefire between then. No further comments were made by the Minister in regard to this as he began to speak about his travel arrangements for Nordmark.

July 9th 1935- The order was given late on the evening, some of the rank and file doing the sign of the cross while moving forward. The border crossings, already on the hands of Lithuanian "freedom fighters" were easily crossed and the troops continued north. Their orders were simple enough; "to repair the damage on the front lines and push the enemy back to the pre-July 8th situation."

The first sign for the Lithuanians was the bombardment of their airfields by elements of the 2nd Bomber Brigade escorted by elements of the 2nd Fighter. The Lithuanians were surprised, due for the most part by the lack of aircrafts of the freedom fighters for close to a week now and that made them lower their guard. Casualties were heavy on the fields close to the front lines but an attack against the airfields near Kaunas were a bloody affair, with the old Breguet not being up to the task and being repulsed.

At 2:00AM on the 10th the Polish Infantry units finally clashed with the Lithuanian III and VII Field Corps (1). The Lithuanians were shocked by the size of their enemy response and by early in the morning a gap was created on their lines that allowed the Suwalska and Wolynska Cavalry Brigades supported by the 1st Tank Battalion(2) to dash forward in the direction of Wilno.

(1) I consider those forces in reality of having at the most the effective strength of infantry brigades and less in regard of unit cohesion. Against trained troops they should give a good fight but unit training should be telling.

(2) 22 Vickers Mk6 and 29 NC-27 tanks.

OOC: I will adjust the numbers of aircrafts and tanks on service after all this is over on the encyclopedia. And Poland is available as soon as we clear this mess. I already promised the place to Agent 148 but I think is a very good candidate for Brazil also.

It makes Italy so happy that they're selling arms to both sides in this war.

Business is good.

Well, I'd wait and see as to whether or not you are given Yugoslavia, then decide whether you want a full blown continental war or not.

Plus two Yugoslavian Divisions and two fighter squadrons are in Poland for "maneuvers." In reality as reinforcements in case of a Russian reaction.

Romania offers its full and complete support to the Polish government in their quest to aid the Polish nationals in Lithuania. To back up this claim, they offer the loan of the 31st, 32nd, and 33rd Fighter Squadrons to Poland.

OOC I wonder if I should really mix things up and officially recognize the Wilno government as a sovereign nation? Of course that also might put me in difficulties with my own minorities.

I wonder how long before India and Peru decide to join in on the fun! Just when I thought FAR was running its course, looks like the wireless messages will be increasing between Cleito and Moscow.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister condemned the Polish invasion of Lithuania and regrets that Romania has seen fit to further inflame tensions by its announcement of military aid. Tsar Boris lamented in a radio interview that he sees no way now for the Russians not to become involved in a general war with the Poles, Romanians, and Yugoslavs.

Turkey condemns the Polish actions, made all the more reckless by the fact that no formal declaraion of war has been made. Clearly the European nations were greatly mistaken in granting the Polish people a nation to govern so recklessly and with blatent disreguard for peace and civility in the region.

We are also greatly disappointed that Romania would choose to assist a clear agressor in this conflict and have as such set the tone for future dealings with the Romanian government in our veiw.

We can only hope that the agression shown by Poland, and the blind devotion to her from Romania, does not rouse the Russian bear and her strong allies to take action that may start a second great war.

The Romanian government is quite perplexed by the attitude of its neighbouring nations, especially the Bulgarians, who seem quite content to stir up trouble amongst the Bulgarian minorities in Romania, yet wont support other minority groups around the world. In response to this accusation of Polish aggression, and blind Romanian devotion, the Romanians offer full recognition of the Republic of Wilno both as the government of a sovereign state, and the Polish nationals in Lithuania as a soverign people.
