Dutch Export Military Aircraft

Military Export Aircraft

The United Kingdoms of the Netherlands boast several well know aircraft manufacturers, including Atlantic, Avia, Fokker, Koolhoven, Reynard and SABCA.

The purpose of this post is to display the companies and facilities, followed by the aircraft available for export

Fokker Aviation, dba
Fokker, (Fokker-)Avia, and (Fokker-America) Atlantic aircraft

Fokker Aircraft is one of the world's premier civil aircraft companies, marketing both its own airliners and license building foreign aircraft. In the mid 1930s, Fokker controlled 40% of the US civil airline market, and the Douglas license for Europe. Fokker is the primary supplier for the Netherlands Air Forces, and sells military aircraft on the open market.

Fokker primarily uses Avia-built versions of Bristol or Gnome-Rhone radials and Hispano-Suiza in-lines. Some German engines are imported from Germany, and the Atlantic Aircraft corporation uses Pratt & Whitney engines.

Factories:
Fokker : Factories outside of Rotterdam & Amsterdam, Ghent, Johannesburg and Jakarta. Seaplane factories in Harlingen and Ambon.
Fokker-Avia : Primary factory in Letnany, Czechoslovakia
Avia maintains engine production facilities in Brno, Czechoslovakia; Eindhoven, Netherlands; Liege, Belgium; and is constructing facilities in Soerabaja, Java.

Atlantic Aircraft (Fokker-America) : Hasbrouk Heights and Passaic, New Jersey; Glen Dale, West Virginia.

Koolhoven
Frederick Koolhovon is a former worker and racecar driver for Belgiums Minerva Motor corporation. In 1910 Koolhoven became a pilot and subsequently worked for a number of aircraft designers in the Netherlands, France and England. The Armstrong-Whitworth F.K.3 was his first design, and 1701 of his F.K. 8 were ordered. In 1917 Koolhoven became the chief designer for B.A.T., yielding the F.K. 23. Postwar, Koolhoven first joined Spyker autos, then N.V. Nationale Vliegtuig Industrie which led to the F.K.31 scout in 1922. With N.V. Nationale Vliegtuig Industrie Koolhoven designed the three engine airliner, the F.K. 33.

Founding his own company in 1926, Koolhoven is an innovative designer, and a who frequently envisions planes that are cutting edge, but difficult to build. The best selling planes were the private use F.K. 41 and the trainer F.K. 51, but Koolhoven has been attempting to establish himself in the military market with the F.K. 55, 57, and 58 prototypes.

Factory
Koolhoven has one factory, at Waalhaven near Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Production of the F.K. 53 for Belgium has stopped.
Production of the F.K. 51 trainer for the Netherlands is in progress.
The company has received orders from the Kongo for the F.K. 58.

Reynard
Reynard is a Belgian company, producing the R.31 and R.36 for the Belgian airforce. Reynard has been displaying the R.37 with the Gnome-Rhone 14N engine in the hopes of securing foreign orders.

Factory
Reynard has one factory, near Deurne.

SABCA
A Belgian company founded in 1920, SABCA stands for Société Anonyme Belge de Construction Aéronautique and produces mostly civil aircraft. The company is willing to license build foreign aircraft. Designs from Fairey, Fokker, Koolhoven and Savoia Marchetti have been built in the past, and the production line is currently producing copies of the British Hurricane, for the Belgian airforce. The Breguet 693 and Caproni Ca313 are being considered.

Factory
SABCA has one factory, near Brussels.
SABCA also has an engine plant at Brussels.

Belgium has a third aircraft company, Stampe & Vertongen company at Antwerpen, but with the exception of the SV5 trainer, only light civil aircraft are produced. Additionally, a subsidiary of Fairey, est 1931, Avions Fairey has a factory at Gosselies.
