Vilnius Verifier, 31 March 1935

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister announced the conclusion of a number of agreements with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Litvinov on a variety of economic matters, none of which aroused much interest. That cannot be said of the agreement of Russia to assist Lithuania building a region of fortification near Altyus. For this effort, Lithuania has contracted for Russian construction materials, small arms and machineguns, mortars, and 12 Russian long-range 122mm guns.

To further assist the project, the services of Russian 2nd Construction Engineer Brigade have also been contracted.
