I've been playing around a little more. Any comments? More lifelike than before but still lacking something?

Interestingly enough, the turrets make me think of those Soviet/Russian single and twin 13cm/5.1inch automatic guns aboard their relatively modern destroyers and cruisers - perhaps it is the length of the barrel compared to the size of the turret?

I'm assuming that you mean the 2ndry turrets as the 10"/45 guns are from old armoured cruisers.

They do bear some resembelance to the 130mm guns mounted on Kirov. The guns themselves are only 45cal at the moment and are to scale. I may have some longer weapons in the future. The turrets themselves are irregular octagons at base, extending vertically for about 0.5-1m and then tapering until 2.5-3.0m high. This gives them a really 'cool' look.

If you mean the 10"/45 guns then it is completely coincidental. The guns are maybe a mite too long at 47cal but that is nowhere near 70cal long.
