Hi there guys! :D

Hey all!

Just dropped by to say hello to everyone. It's been more than a year since I last came and after such a long time I remembered the good days I spent here :).

I see the SIM goes on nicely! :)...As you all know I had some serious real life issues that pulled me out of the SIM, so many bad things in such a short time span...but life's going much much better now :).

I see you gave Netherlands to Kaiser Kirk. I'm sorry I wasn't available back then to help him, telling the plans I had for the KM so he understood some planning decisions I did for the dutch navy, but is plain to see he's done a great job with my ex-nation! (I love the carriers you designed, kirk!...quite along of what I had in mind, actually)

I see a lot of new faces around here too...as I said, glad to see the SIM's alive and well :D.

PD: I haven't, by far, read all the news or posts since I left, but I think Oonishi Manzo needs to see some more action :P. Walter! write a story for him! ;)

Hi!

Good to have you back!

Hey! Welcome back! Good to hear that real life is being much nicer to you now. I think Kirks doing a great job with the Netherlands, he keeps everyone on their toes!

Hey man,

Good to hear from you. Glad things are going better for you now.

I decided to call it quits a few months ago, but stop by to check things out and occasionally be a nuisance. Kirk was a good guy to be interacting with; poor guy probably misses having me as a full-time antagonist.

A few of us are also doing stuff at another sim, www.navalism.org. Come by and say hello.

Hi RAM !

Good to meet you. I spent a bunch of time going through your old posts when I started, it would have been much easier to have you around to coach me, but I put some of your already posted designs into service. Seriously considered the Stomp BBs also.

I don't know if you've noticed, but I tried to build on your early storyline and have brought Belgium much closer to the Netherlands, just been to busy to work out/post the final details.

As for Rocky, yeah I miss having him playing, but it's easier to paint the Bharat Empire as vile and perfidious when they don't talk back :) Besides, ...it's true ! 8p

Hi again :D

Damn, Rocky...still haven't reached the point of the storyline where you left...first new I have you're not playing here anymore :(.

Loved your news reports, and the intelligent way you developed your navy. I recall you said once that you felt kinda warm knowing that I was having headaches with my bigger Cleito tonnage allowances, to compensate for your meage 80k tons of capital tonnage...

Believe it or not, it wasn't easy. The dutch being a colonial power and being you in the middle of the way to the DEI, and having as a self-imposed rule to have a decently sized force at the Netherlands themselfs; to compensate for your very very well designed and thought navy was a challenge even with the bigger size Netherlands was/is allowed to have. Throw SATSUMA in the mix...and you'll get an idea on how paranoid I was about your "meagre sized navy" ;).

Sad to see you left the game...I really enjoyed the in game "cold relations" between our nations, and the OOC chats we had now and then.

About navalism...wow has changed a lot since the early try we gave to it...have registered there but the ones I know there also post here so saying "hello" to people I've never crossed with, well, doesn't make much sense :D

(BTW there's no way in hell there would be a national entity called "Iberia". It would be Spain (if the portuguese were subjugated) or Hispania (latin name for the whole peninsula). But Iberia is never used here in Spain to refer to any of either countries, Spain or Portugal...I'd suggest a change of name...but that's just me as a spaniard, lol.

Hi there! :)

Yah, sorry I wasn't arround to give you some in-sight in my plans, but you've done a hell of a job alone ;).

The Stomps were early ideas to replace the Ijkselijks and Zeven provinciëns in a single stroke, but later I changed minds. There were several different plans I had for my battleline as I evolved from one idea to the next one...

My last idea was to have the De Ruyters, the Utretchs, two 21 knot well armed and armored BBs with a nelson-like layout, and two fast and well protected battlecruisers. I even designed the slow Battleships, I think there's even a pic somewhere in this forum :).

for what I saw, you perfectly understood the basis of the whole concept of the dutch heavy and light cruiser force, comparing them with the potential foes Netherlands would probably have to face. I carefully picked the speeds for the cruisers comparing them with likely enemies, and took that as a starting point for the designs. I am glad you understood the reasoning so well ;).

Yah, saw it ,glad you took the role where I left it...as I said, you've done a hell of a job!...and I mean it, feels nice to see that the work I did here was not only not lost, but greatly expanded and improved. :D

Just curious RAM, are you well enough off now to join the sim again? You seem to still have quite the interest in it and there are several nations available to play.

Could be that the Portugese and the Spanish couldn't agree which name to take so in the end decided to used the name of the peninsula. :)

I have a hard time coming up with things, so even Manzo's misadventures suffer as a result of "THE BLOCK" (tm)

Depends a bit on the nations open for me to play, but sure, I could and would love to join again :D

[edit] lol Walter...that's why I said Hispania...back in the days of the Roman Empire, Portugal was integral part of Hispania. In the first days of the first independent spanish nation (with the visigoths) the Visigoth Kingdom of Hispania included Portugal.

When Spain was re-united after the reconquista there were three main kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula: Aragon, Castile and Portugal. The project of the Catolic Kings (Isabel and Fernando) was to re-unite them all under the same banner, that of Spain. Aragon and Castile got united under that banner and name, but Portugal refused.

The ironic thing is that Isabel when she was a youth was nearly married to the Portuguese heir. She refused him, tho (causing a war in the process), because she wanted to marry Fernando of Aragon for political reasons (and probably because of other interests too..Fernando II of Aragon and I of Castile was one of the best and most intelligent kings ever to have lived in history...guess he had a charm too).

Had isabel "married with Portugal" guess what: Spain would've been Castile and Portugal instead of CAstile and Aragon. And the fierce anti-spaniards would've been the Aragonese.

History apart, Iberia is a name almost never used here. Hispania could work rather than Spain (To compensate for the fact that the portuguese HATED to be called spaniards between 1580 and 1648 -when there was a spanish King in portugal) because of the fact that there had actually been a kingdom known as hispania with the visigoths...

Iberia on the other hand...can't see it working...Iberia was the name of PART of the peninsula back on the phoenicians' days. Actually it was called "Celtiberia" ,because of the mix of Celts and Iberic tribes when Cartaghe conlonized the peninsula.

But as Iberia, there has never been a precedent in the peninsula. It's called that way as a geograpic entity but...as a political entity I doubt a name like that would've ever happened.

Well for starters I'd check with Perdedor, he's caretaking quite a few nations such as Poland, Romania, Yugoslavia (and Bulgaria IIRC) aside from playing Peru.

I'd also check with Gavin to see the status on Commodor Green and "Iberia". I might be wrong but it seemed like CG lost interest in the sim.
It would be nice to have someone with your writing skills to cook up some story's with between Iberia and its natural advasary Atlantis. Again check with RA on that one. If it worked out you could change the nation to its rightfull title of Hispania.

I could also suggest Colombia as an alternate nation, very close to Atlantis currently and in need of a modern navy.

If Iberia's free...well, would be a dream come true ;).

If not, I'll wait to see...Colombia or Peru sound ok...but Iberia...ohhh Iberia, hehehe :D

Saturday, July 14th 2007, 12:25am

Acctually Peru is Perdedors full time nation.

As for Iberia I don't want to get your hopes up to much but it might be possible if CG has lost interest and I'm sure Gavin would welcome a more active partner in crime.

It's colombia or Iberia, then ;). let's see wich of the two I get.

Certainly an active Iberia (or Hispania, or Portospania, or whatever) would make for interesting times (into which the WW nations seem to be sailing at the moment anyway).

Again just to be sure not to step on anyones toes, Iberia is an unknown at the moment. Gavin has the best read on the situation as he's in contact with CG and Bernhard.

You posted the Stomps once I think, I had that post saved with your other designs. A varient of that nearly saw the light. I re-trod the "Rebuild the ZP" ground, designed some 360mm guns, and in a thread RA and I both put in some 18-20k designs for an escort BBs. Ultimately, I went with the idea of 7 BBs, and the van Heemskerck class as the best I could do on the tonnage.

Now I'm tinkering with the update for a post-treaty BB.

Yah, posted the Stomp details, as I said, I did many many variants of what I could do and Stomps were the way to go for a good while until I thought about the possible alternatives.

The solution you came with I also considered, but Hooman gave me the idea on going with a couple 26.5K slow battleships to replace the ZPs, and then replace the ijkselijks with battlecruisers of a similar displacement. I gave it a thought and decided I wanted 8 ships more than 7 of a higher displacement. But your decision -and the design- is also a good one. It's all a matter of preferences, in fact :)

If you're curious, here's the details of the 26.5K BB I considered:

http://wesworld.jk-clan.de/thread.php?threadid=2320&sid=

depending on the country I'm assigned I may rescue that design and actually build it, who knows :).

I'll be nice to have an active Iberia again. Peru's plans for the future are tied to Iberian foreign policy. Please someone take Iberia. Please!!!

Yes, having an Iberian player would be good

Don't mind the coast artillery I've built at Tangiers :D

Heck it would spur my own foreign policy as well.
