Sudnry news and items July 3rd 1921

OOC: Am bulking this into one post. July 4th is a bit hard, and may take until tomorrow to post - it has a key piece which must be done right. Weekend proved without spare time for these news, and deadline for project caused there to be 17 hours between me leaving for school on Monday morning, and returning home the night between Monday and Tuesday - the project is supposed to be only a small portion of this year's workload, but is taking on a life of its own.

Also: Next time I mess up with dates the way I did with the items labelled June 31st, please tell me?

MARINKURIREN: TRANSPORTSHIPS FILL HARBOURS OF BERGEN, KRISTIANSAND
In these days the harbours of Bergen and Kristiansand are packed to congestion with passenger-vessels, cargo-vessels, and naval vessels of all sizes and shapes, all busily loading soldiers, weaponry, supplies, and other cargo. Official confirmation of numbers is, naturally, not forthcoming from any official sources, but unofficially it is stated that at least eighteen oceangoing liners will be employed, as well as a large number of cargo-vessels. The expedition is expected to last maybe as much as half a year, and this will have a significant effect on trade for our nation - but our people is devoted and willing, and will stand this test as well as any test that has gone before. It is thought that the first group departing may carry as many as 15 000 soldiers on it - all of them drawn from the Coastal Ranger Battalions, that peculiar organisation which is part of the Navy.

US+UK MAKES STATEMENT
The following statement is released at the same time from the British and US governments July 3rd - in USA by the president in the rose garden, in Britain by a piece of paper issued from 10 Downing Street by a harried-looking civil servant.
  1. The governments of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the United States of America, express their condolences to the Royal Family, the Government, and the People of Nordmark for their recent loss. {This is the British version; in the US version the order is the People, the Government, and the Royal Family, for some strange reason}
  2. The governments of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the United States of America, recognise that South Georgia is falls outside of the jurisdicition of the Monroe Doctrine.
  3. The governments of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the United States of America, recognise the importance of international law and due process.
  4. The governments of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the United States of America, likewise recognise the right of each sovereign nation to defend itself against agression. A military expedition from the Kingdom of Nordmark to retake South Georgia will not be considered a violation of the Monroe doctrine, provided that it is not used as a pretext for further territorial gains at the expense of sovereign nations on the American continents, whether by the Kingdom of Nordmark or by some other nation. Any violation of the Monroe Doctrine not conducted in self-defense will be met such response as is considered suitable bythe United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and by the United States of America.
  5. The governments of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the United States of America, recognise the importance of the work of the League of Nations, and urge the conflicting parties to resolve this conflict peacefully, and to accept the aid of the League of Nations to this end
  6. The governments of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the United States of America, urge the Kingdom of Nordmark to adopt such terms for peace as may be reasonably met by the Republic of Argentina.
  7. The governments of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the United States of America, urge the Republic of Argentina to immediately cease its occupation of South Georgia and return it to Nordmark jurisdiction.
  8. The governments of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the United States of America, will, in the case of a failure of peaceful resolution, not oppose nor hinder a military solution on the part of the Kingdom of Nordmark, provided that the goal of such a military solution is expressly limited to returning the geo-political situation to the state inwhich it was prior to the Argentine annexation of South Georgia, as well as such compensation as is considered reasonable. The government of the Kindom of Nordmark is invited and ecnourage to clarify its goals in this respect at the earliest possible opportunity.[/list=1]
EXPRESSEN 03.07.1921: STEVEDORES, LOADERS THREATEN BOYCOTT OF PEDRO LINE
The Union of Stevedores and the Union of Harbour-workers, both within the National Labour Organisation, has warned foreign companies, in particular the Pedro Line of Iberia, that if such companies bid on, and gain, contracts previously held by Nordmark ships for the trade on Italy, all such companies will find while in Nordmark harbours, loading and unloading ships, and taking on fuel, will have become a much more difficult task than hitherto. - We cannot idly sit by and watch foreign capitalists attempt to wipe the lifeblood of our nation away from the seas, said an unnamed spokesman to this newspaper.

Government sources state that this does not represent official government policy, and caution that while the present crisis is stretching government resources more thinly than normal, it will still be fully able to respond properly to illegal actions against legal trade.

BERLINGSKE TIDENDE: LOCATION OF CARL PHILIPP KNOWN, SAYS NORDMARK GOVERNMENT
In a brief statement late yesterday, respresentatives of the Nordmark government confirmed that they now know to their satisfaction the whereabouts of HM King Carl XVI Philipp, but that they have not data yet on his condition. They confirmed that this knowledge was the key reason behind the decision to delay the Royal funeral. They would not confirm whether or not the present, presumed still living, King of Nordmark is travelling to Nordmark, although this must be seen as likely. In a separate announcement, the nordmark Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the gratitude of the Nordmark people and the Nordmark government towards the people and government of the South-African Empire, for their aid and assistance in the search and recovery of the Nordmark sailors of the cruisers Sigtuna and Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

BERLINGSKE TIDENDE: ARGENTINA EXPELS DANISH DIPLOMATS
The government of the Republic of Argentina has officially announced that it is expelling all Danish diplomats, and is cutting off all diplomatic contact with Denmark, citing as its reason Danish violation of the diplomatic immunity of Argentine diplomats. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen has not at present given a statement, saying only that it is not at liberty to give a statement until July 7th.
