Fokker G-1s

Included in the Dutch news summary was mention of the G-1s entering service.

These two planes are the G-1 versions the Dutch are placing in service in late 1934 and 1935 in conjunction with FW-187As they hope to order from Germany.

The primary version is the G-1A "Aircruiser", basically a fighter bomber. The G-1C is a "Heavy Fighter", The G-1A differs primarily in a larger nacelle, boasting a larger bomb bay, a second crewmen, and twin GAST MGs in a tail turret in comparison to the G-1C. These two versions share both engines (currently Jumo 211Bs) and wings. A second Aircruiser version, the G-1B, (not shown) is still in development with radial engines, currently attaining 287kts with a pair of 1,050hp P&W R-1830-66 Twin Wasps, but designed with the forthcoming Hercules in mind.

The G-1A and C are both equipped with twin 23mm Madsen cannon, and 4x 7.92mm MGs forward (as the historic plan), while the A has the addition rear twin GAST MG. Ammo is included in user weight, which includes an additional 50lbs for the radio, etc.

All performance specs are at max. weight.

Interesting choice of the Gast gun as rear armament. Which one? The WWI 7.92x57 or just the name and mech in a new gun?

Performance seems good, especially speed, for such a large aircraft. I have my concerns over the structural strength which I've mentioned before.

The first G-1 I posted up a bit ago matched historical performance pretty well, so that part is close, but switching to much more powerful inlines with the new supercharger helped alot.

I don't recall your mention of structural concerns, but the historical G-1s were apparently well thought of and served until the German invasion, I expect them to be a pre-Lightning analog.

BTW, alternate performance specs,

Full fuel, ammo, no bombs
G-1A, max spd : 384mph climb : 2,674 fpm
G-1C, max spd : 389mph climb : 2,991fpm

light weight
G-1A, max spd : 389mph climb : 3,127 fpm
G-1C, max spd : 392mph climb : 3,446 fpm

The GAST is an updated vesion of the WWI weapon, still in 7.92x57. As you've pointed out in the past it's a marginal benefit, two single MGs would be simpler. However, in the constraints of the conical rear turret I figured the GAST would offer the best current means of more firepower. Considering the limited application, the limited additional fiscal cost would be acceptable.
